Hi,
I would really like some advise on skis...
I'm a "week a year" skier for 6 seasons now so I'm a fairly good skier. I looked up a system to grade myself and found a 9 points system. I'd say I'm a good level 7.
This year I'm gonna go on a slightly longer vacation so I find it very economical to buy my own set of skies rather than rent. Already have Nordica GTS8 boots.
I ski mostly on slopes, say 85% of the time, and the rest off piste.
I don't care if I buy a model from previous years just as long as it's new.
I thought about Fischer's watea 84, any comments?
Suggestions/Opinions would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Dotan

Welcome to J2ski :D The Watea 84 is a well regarded ski. I tried some in a Snowdome, but they were a bit long for me, I'm 164 and they were the 176. I have a bit more than 6 weeks experience.
They have been around for a couple of years now, and I've not seen any bad write ups. If you are very skinny, then you may not get the best from them. I would say with 84 underfoot, the Watea should suit the terrain you want to ski well.

thanks,
I'm 168cm 67kg, that would be light weight hah? :D
Will the watea 84 at 167cm be ok?
What about the fischer's motive 76 or 80?

Yup, you are pretty light. Go for the 167 I reckon. I know nothing about the Fischer Motive 76 or 80. The write ups suggest it's an all mountain ski for mostly piste use. Seems to be fitted with a rail binding system. 1 word..heavy. The 80 will give better support underfoot when off piste.I have a personal preference to avoiding rail bindings after owning Head Monsters with Railflex 2. Great ski, way too heavy, because of the binding system. Get hold of a pair of the Motive's before parting with your money, just to be certain.

thanks man,
I wish I could test the skies before I buy them, unfortunately (or not) I live in a very sunny country without much snow...
didn't consider what you said about the bindings so thanks for that, what are the alternatives for rail binding?
any knowledge about the Salomon's Tornado TI? are they for expert level?
I gathered that the x-wing storm is not recommended...

The Tornadoes are in my opinion easier to ski than the Wateas which I found to require a lot of angulation to set then on edge. I liked the Salomon Lords and found I hooked up to them quickly - very confidence inspiring. If I don't get on with my K2 Recons I'll go for anpair of Lords
