Fitted boot+footbed, still painful. Help!

I had a pair of Salomon Impact 8's fitted last season. The liners were heat moulded and I had custom footbeds made. They felt great (though tight) until I actually skied in them. After one day I'd crushed my left foot so badly the big toe numbness took three months to pass. I skied the rest of the week in horrible big hired boots. When I returned the fitters blew out the shell on the left as much as possible. I tried them for 2 hours in Hemel and all seemed OK. This season I skied all week but they still gave me some grief, esp when cold, and I have some numbness and crunching in the ball of the foot even a couple of days after returning. The right foot is fine, but I think the left boot is simply too narrow (I have quite differently sized feet, and my arches are low).

So, my question to anyone still reading this self-pitying moan: Is this salvageable without going through the entire process again? In principle, can I use the footbed and/or liner in a larger Impact 8 (or other Salomon boot)?

I don't care if I have to ski in two different colours of boots or anything like that :lol: I just want the keep the right foot as it is but avoid permanent nerve damage on the left. Thanks for any info you can give me!

Sounds like you need to take another visit to the 'fitter'. Where did you have them done? If they aren't rectifying the issue it is their duty to make it right.

It was Snow & Rock in CG, London. I told them it was OK after my trip to Hemel, and 11 months has passed since then, so I wouldn't blame them for turning me away. I haven't been back to see them (just got back from skiing 3 days ago) so it was more of a theoretical question about what is possible. Cheers

If they are still not right you should go back and explain - at least give them the opportunity to make it right be it with financial compensation or otherwise. If that fails you need to go and see another bootfitter with your current boots and maybe they can fix them, on the other hand be prepared to shell out for a new pair.

Salomon Impact 8 is a narrow boot. so if you have wide feet then you deff have the wrong boot for you.

I would go see the boot fitters agen.

Interesting. Just so I have my powder dry, so to speak, how do you know the I8 is narrow (is there some database of boots out there? The Salomon website just has current models), and how can I measure my foot width in some standard way? If I have evidence that they fecked it up they might be more inclined to help me out...

Lockwoods list the widths of each particular boot. Give them a chance before you go in armed with all the evidence and accuse them of doing their job incorrectly (even although they have, you should give them another shot at making it right). If you go for boots in the future you should get a recommendation a solid recommendation and go on that without any preconceptions of what boots you should have. If they are good then the boots will work.

I agree that Max should go back to a fitter, however, the Impact 8 is a 100 boot, far from from being narrow.

Max, you might consider getting a second opinion on your measurements for a ski boot.

Out of interest, how many pairs of different boots were you offered to try after being measured?
