Thanks for replies €619 is per adult but thinking about it probably is a bit pricey.
Can anyone recommend alternative best deals or should I wait until last minute. We are flying from Ireland.
Thanks

Its a very good hotel, with a superb restaurant.
I've just paid £720 for a week in Mayrhofen end of Feb, fully catered chalet and lift pass, through Crystal.
You're right, it heads right up the mountain out of town, and then goes across the next little valley between 2 peaks very high up.
Its funny, because you get accustomed to using it, and almost switch off from how high it goes after a few days, and certainly once you've visited the resort a few times. Its my 15 minutes to get into the zone and listen to my ipod on the way up. I've got some stunning photos taken from the Penkenbahn.
The Ahorn cable car also climbs very steeply up the mountain, but sticks closer to the rocks so you don't get the impression of being as high, but I can assure you that is one hell of an impressive climb.
But then I can recall a number of other high and what some might call scary cable cars I have been on, including the Valluga Cable car in St Anton and the Jumbo in Verbier.

Thats not a bad price for the Kramerwirt in Mayrhofen, including flights and transfers I presume?pavb2 wrote:Thanks for replies €619 is per adult but thinking about it probably is a bit pricey.

Been to both. Went to Soll last year and had such a good time going back there this season. Mayrhofen was great town, great skiing but really found the queing to go up and DOWN the main gondolla a massive chore. Been to numerous places in Austria and will continue to do so and for the reason previously stated I would not return to Mayrhofen unless it was a bargain.

Its a fag, but you get used to it. I actually enjoy looking at the views going up, and listen to my ipod for a while too, and coming down is just a prelude to a beer.
Its worth it for the skiing once you get up there.
Mind you, the more people who choose not to go because of the gondola ride, the better, as far as I am concerned. It leaves more room for me.

......is absolutely the correct answer. 8.15am on the Penkenbahn. Lucky to see more than about 30 people that time of day. Get up there and have it on the freshly groomed cord.Ian Wickham wrote:MMmmm not keen on queuing, but I guess the early bird gets the empty lifts

A word of warning. I may also be slightly biased. I am not afraid of flying and not normally of gondollas but on the way the lift goes parallel between 2 peaks with a massive drop below (remember it being 1200 feet however i may be wrong). Did not notice the first few days as we climbed through the cloud but when it was clear, streuth it was beutifull but gave me kittens. If you have a nervous first timer who is not comfortable with mountains this may be the straw that breaks the camels back. Totally agree with Tony H that when you are up there the skiing is fantastic.Had to psyc myself up to go and up down every day!!!

You're absolutely right. I was desperate to get my mate Stewart to Mayrhofen as I know he will love the scene in the town, and I think the Penken Gondola would cure his fear of ski lifts for sure!Scarlet Fez wrote:A word of warning.
