Have you been? Someone told me Zermatt was expensive and I didn't think it was that bad.

Zermatt, Expensive, old son it is all reletive to what you earn ....... for a poor man like me it's expensive ....... get a job you will then agree " It's expensive "

Haha, thats Pablo told )

However Wickers the expense of Switzerland in general is hyped. Coming from either the EURO-zone or thr UK means that the cost is reasonable these days, and certainly a lot cheaper than many French resorts IMO.

Zermatt is however I think the most expensive lift pass in Europe, which doesn't help.

I have been to Saas Fee, Zermatt, Engleberg, Wengen and Grindelwald this year and with the exception of Zermatt I have found them all cheaper than St. Anton (Aus!!), La PLagne, Val d'isere or Tignes for instance. Engleberg is particulary good value for money.

Not really ) He asked if Wickers had been, it seemed to me the answer was no, a comparison with somewhere else he'd not been isn't very useful.

We had a flat in St Gervais, part of the Megève area, for some years and it's a great ski area. Probably one of the most underrated areas in France with access to some other areas if you've a car, Chamonix of course but also Praz sur Arly and so on. The area's not especially expensive, there's some extremely expensive restaurants but there's some pretty cheap ones as well.

Some friends of mine have been to Praz sur Arly (last year) which, as Ise said, is in the same area. They say it is a little old fashioned, reasonably cheap, very French, really pretty, and the slopes were practically empty.

It is part of the new espace diamant with 185 Km of piste and, I think, 5 linked villages. I would think it is much cheaper than Megeve, if you want to save some money Pablo, although less 'posh'.

Each too his own but I don't have any real ambition to visit any of those resorts apart from Grindelwald which I will possible visit next year, and ise my friend you do not have to visit the resort to know that it is expensive.
And I give you guy's some light reading:

Megeve Eating

Megeve has more than its fair share of fine restaurants, eight of which have Michelin stars. The restaurants serve a wide variety of food from the traditional Savoyard raclette to international cuisine. An unusual restaurant serves superb food in a farmhouse atmosphere where diners enjoy their Michelin rated food while observing farm animals through a glass floor. It is, as expected, an expensive night out. Megeve also has excellent cafés and restaurants on the mountains above the town.

I might only be there on 7 nights? Can anyone tell me which one of the 8 isn't quite up to scratch?

Cheers.

apparently you do :) you've not been and think it's expensive, when I worked in France I lived in the area so I can tell you for a fact it's not. Unless you can think of a different explanation I think the reason I know that is that I've been.
