I've found to my disappointment that Policies do vary quite a bit year on year. I spent ages ploughing through the really small print in quite a few policies a couple of winters ago and settled on an annual policy from Direct-Travel. This year it seems to have turned into a general holidaymakers policy, into which they have inserted some phrases about skiing. On asking for clarification about vague and ambiguous phrases in the wording, it seems that there is now very little understanding about winter sports within the company, even if you are passed up the line to the grand sounding "Compliance Officer" person. The mindset of the insurer now seems firmly focused only on skiers who stay in resort controlled areas. This is in conflict with their policy offering of off piste and ski touring cover.
It's a real shame as this was one of the most sensible no-nonsense skiers policies. I know at least 1 other J2skier is insured with them. Still, as a ski instructor, I'm sure he'll be relieved to know that his insurer considers him to be able to authorise the opening of any part of the domain he's in, since he's suitably qualified.
Yes...really, and I have that in writing
I have been sufficiently concerned to purchase in addition an Air-Glaciers Policy for us both to ensure we get prompt rescue if we need it. That has not been without problems, since the Cards have now arrived, both in the name of my partner. I phoned the co. yesterday, apparently my name is on the policy, I paid the bill, but it seems I don't get a card
