Welcome to J2ski macjayski :D My OH is also missing an ACL and uses a Cti Edge brace that was fitted on the instructions of his surgeon. It was explained to my OH exactly what would happen inside the knee, should the femur be allowed to ride forward of the lower leg as a result of inertia
I get the feeling right now, that jhorsfall does not know, what he needs, if anything. It would be good of he could find out if he needs a support which will help with proprioception and confidence, or a brace to counter instability, or bits missing.

Heavens above Eggman! How horrifying  I had no idea that a bunnion operation could result in one needing 6 weeks off work. How awful. Poor you.
How did you get the bunnions in the first place? And what are they exactly?

Donjoy also make a couple of short ACL braces that are short enough to fit above a ski boot - most acl braces are too long to wear with a ski boot (The same applies to motorcross boots).
If you've done one ACL you are at greater risk than most of pinging the other - ACL injuries are probably the most common significant skiing knee injury - either from direct trauma of impact or simply hyperextending the knee (relatively common new skiers)
If you've had your ACL reconstructed the evidence suggests a functional brace reduces the risk of re-injury significantly & the apparent high cost of the brace outweighs the hassle of another reconstruction.
Good, functional knee braces are expensive, however cheap ones tend to be uncomfortable and useless.

Ok,
So i have my knee brace, i was just wondering, those of you that wear a brace while skiing do u wear it over or under your base layer? and does it make a difference? ive tried it both ways and it is much more comfortable over the base layer but i wasnt sure whether this would have an adverse affect on the brace.
Thanks in advance

Can't help you with that one I'm afraid. My brother would never wear a base layer, he considers it to be a question on his sexual orientation

OH wears his base layer over the top of his Cti. Underneath the brace, he puts a layer of tubigrip, otherwise he gets a rash. Sensitive skin, probably like FQ's :D

Hi, as I wrote in an earlier post this year I crepe bandaged the knee in a slightly bent position then fitted my bioskin brace over that then base layer. I will be going for a fitted brace in the summer as the pain is getting a bit too much now  Not much to worry about at the mo as I am off work for 6 weeks after my Bunnion op. Gives me much joy reading all the posts on the site.(Sad or What) )
Ready? I was born ready.

I wouldn't know what would be best for your particular injury, I can only go by personal experience. I damaged cruciate, lateral and medial ligaments. There is a bit of instability there, but with lots of quad exercises I can ski most things without problems. I do however wear a knee support, as sometimes my knee swells up after skiing. I always carry crepe bandages and tubigrip with me, and I will wear that after skiing if I feel I need to.
