Folks here advised well and we went to Lech-Zurs in Spring 09; With a kid, Oberlech as a place to stay is probably hard to beat anywhere. Regardless, here is a TR thread - others here can advise you too, Brits seem to like Mayrhofen

Glad it was the right place for you. I have done St Anton but not Lech side personally.
The comments re lift queues are typical of most you find across Europe, irrespective of which country you are in. Everyone is in a rush to get up the lift first, and dont think it is an Austrian thing - the people in those lift queues would have been been German, French, Swiss, Austrian, British, and so on. Its just become the way things happen these days because the lift attendents dont conduct the queues like they do in America, and European pistes are generally much more crowded than those on your side of the pond. My experience has told me to expect that kind of behaviour and respond to it wherever you are. Generally I found the lift queues in France the worst in terms of how busy they were and also how unfriendly they were. The Italian queues were much more laid back, apart from when a group of French students joined in right at the front coming in from the side and stood all over everyones skis!
Anyway, glad you found somewhere that was suitable. Was it somewhere suggested to you by people on this forum?

Have been to Schladming for the past 5 years and have to declare that there are a couple of annoying T bars required to get back from the Haiber to the Planai which is a bit of chore but do not let that put you off. There are four mountains that are all linked together. You can ski to the bottom to the resorts at all of them.
Also went to Mayrhofen last year and yes thought the skiing was excellent but found it a chore to have to queue morning and at tea time to get to and from the skiing area on the gondollas to the Penken.

Should have mentioned it, the attached photo is at the bottom of the Penken ski area, so you can see how far you have to go up to get the bottom of the pistes.

Its about 15 minutes from bottom to top. However you can avoid the Penken queues by heading up or down the Horberg lift or via Finkenberg.

Is the correct answer. Having been to M several times with Mr Daddle here, I can confirm that getting on the Penken Gondola at 8.15am has never involved more than 2 minutes queuing at the worst, although getting off the mountain can take longer admittedly.
