Or save a fiver and head for St. Anton.

Personally I'd save the fiver 8)

Personally if it was a choice of doing all the above and going to Zell or just going to St Anton and saving five squid, i'd go to Zell.

I'd go to Zell too! In fact I plan on going for the third time next year! Never been to St Anton but has a reputation as being expensive? Like skiing is a cheap holiday anyway!!

I haven't been to Zell, mainly because the ski area doesnt light my fires. Its fairly low and often struggles with snow, and Kaprun then becomes dangerously overcrowded, as well as being bleak and miserable - a friend of mine has been there and reported first hand to me on the place.

St Anton I have been to, and can only tell you what a superb ski area is available on the pass, and you can also ski Lech and Zurs on the pass.
Its higher up and therefore much more snowsure.
Like anywhere, it has its expensive bars and restaurants, but you can find places with happy hours as well.
As for expensive, we travelled first week in Jan and had a 4 star chalet fully catered, flights and transfers, and a special deal on lift passes 2 for 1, for a total of £560 per person. I havent been able to find many fully catered chalet holidays for much less than that, although if you want to you can spend £1500 a week in the same resort just on accommodation.
I think people need to realise that many ski resorts have a reputaion for being expensive. Its hardly a cheap holiday to go on irrespective of where you travel to, but if you are prepared to look you will always find something of excellent value. I wouldn't class St Anton as especially expensive, particularly after finding drinks and food almost half as much again in France earlier this year.

Take France out the equation then St. Anton is the most expensive place I've been including Zermatt.

I want to say that I have never had a problem with the snow at Zell. The best runs are higher up anyway. The only thing you may not be able to do at beginning/end of the season is ski back to resort. I don't mind about that as the lifts are so good. My friend went to Zell the year of little snow and never had any problems. There are 5 of us in my family so that makes it expensive. At least the exchange rate has improved somewhat since I went in Feb.

Have to agree. Never had problems with snow at Zell. Exchange rate isn't great but is better than it was and then again US and Canada is not as cheap as it was a few years back.

Tony H - where do you find these great deals! I have been looking for days! We live in the middle east so we do not really have access to UK operators but if you can point me in the right direction for catered chalet bookings it would be a start

thanks
