LM wrote:This was a good thread,I have been wondering about this too..the pain and how long after I will be able to do things. As most of you know I have been skiing on a injured torn knee (with an hinged knee brace) and the help of ibuprofen....I know Im nuts ..but I find skiing easier on my knee than walking )
p.s
I stay out of the deep powder, knee cant take that at the moment

I see the ortho surgeon next week to get MRI results...yikes!

I hope it all goes well for you. Caron's news is good and I'm sure you'll be posting similar news soon!

Best of luck everyone with all your knee injuries, and I hope you all fully recover and get to ski for many, many more years,

Ally

Just a reminder, in case anyone hasn't read one of these knee threads befor. Muscle counts, especially the quads, but really every muscle that keeps the knee stable. Light exercise won't build enough strength in the legs to have bullet proof knees. It takes cross-training that actually builds muscle and preferably with some instability/balance built in. Weight machines are not as good for this, as a sport that takes a little leg oomph.

absolutely Trencher. I ride my bike with both gears on maximum, uphill, sitting down. Blimey! It kills

I also love my yoga. Very strong poses work the legs really hard and the balancing poses are fantastic for making your brain aware of where you knees are (there's a word for it that I can't think of for the life of me?).

You are totally right Caron about the yoga. I think that is what has kept me moving and strong... my Ashtanga yoga practice..modified of course.

Thanks Ally and Snowb4,I hope I can share good news about the knee one day too ) :-)

how was that on your knees while you were learning and how long post-op did you start?

I started post op about 2 years because I had some problems! I find snowboarding easy on the knees! I had my right knee reconstructed twice & luckily I stand regular as opposed to goofy, so my right knee is at the back. A friend of mine who also had knee problems had to stand goofy even though he didn't want to initially, so that his bad knee was at the back! I'm not too sure how much difference this makes as my left knee is fine so I've never had that problem. I also keep both my feet strapped in as much as possible, even on the chairlift! so as to mimimise any chance of a twist!
