I had my right knee reconstructed twice & luckily I stand regular as opposed to goofy, so my right knee is at the back. A friend of mine who also had knee problems had to stand goofy even though he didn't want to initially, so that his bad knee was at the back! I'm not too sure how much difference this makes as my left knee is fine so I've never had that problem. I also keep both my feet strapped in as much as possible, even on the chairlift! so as to mimimise any chance of a twist!
Those are good observations. I know it would not have been as easy for me if the bad knee had been at the front. In good snowboard technique the front leg does most of the work guiding the board. Bad technique is when you see people kicking the back of the board out to turn with their rear leg. So that makes sense. I was using step in bindings which were easy to click into on the lift and made getting off steadier. I did have one liftie tell me off ( you are not supposed to clip in on the lift). I guess I could have got a doctors note and ask for an accommodation for a disability.
