Thank you very much , definately some things to keep in mind as we're planning the trip. Like Australia, Canadian distances are further than they appear on the map. Very sneaky. We can't get a direct flight as we're using our frequent flyer points (to save money) and they pretty much send you to the moon and back.

Another alternative is to drive the whole way.

Sydney to Big White is only 54 Days 17 Hours according to Google. (not including toilet breaks)

Type in "sydney australia to big white bc" in Google maps.

Be sure to take the...

Kids have lot to do here,great snow,beautiful setting.Mini snowmobiles,bungy jumping (for kids) ,tubing,skating,...the list goes on

Recommend the Delta hotel for kids. Beautiful pool with 4 big hottubs,games room,workout room,ski in and out.

Love this resort. Just took my brother and kids from alberta here last week,he liked it better than Banff.

Ha. That's a very good quote Caron-a. Which is your fav resort? Sunpeaks or Big White? We are exchanging our home in Sydney with someone's condo in Big White to save on accommodation costs. It makes for a cheaper trip when we combine it with frequent flyer seats, especially in 'these times of economic uncertainty'. Naturally, the last thing to go is the ski holiday! Priorities.

Anyone want to exchange a place in Silver Star? Our home is avail the second half of Jan. It requires mutual trust, it works like this- don't draw on our walls and we won't draw on yours.

I'm pretty new to this skiing malarky and haven't made it across the pond yet (may take you up on your offer one day LM) but of the five resorts I've visited in europe I've loved them all. If I had to choose a favourite I think Obergurgl would edge it, but I could change my mind tomorrow...

I'd love to exchange our home for one in Sidney, permanently!!! I adore the place :D

Mate... how fast do you drive?

Google has Big White to Fernie at 7 hours 22 mins straight which I rekon is a gross underestimate. Adding toilet breaks, winter driving conditions and the family factor etc.. would probably double it. It is theoretically possible, but probably not much fun.


Took us 1 hour 45 mins to Silver Star on the twice weekly coach from Big White so im guessing it would be a fair bit less in a car?

7 hour overnight drive is fine, especially when you know you're on your way to Fernie :lol:
