You keep bringing budget airlines into the equation, why else?

Back to the original point, the OP ignored a sign that clearly stated Boots were NOT allowed in hand luggage and carried on regardless. Might be blunt of me but it is no ones fault but his (or hers).

Now this is just a further example where they can charge a hefty premium for excess baggage

Clearly not as it is an airport imposed restriction not one put in place by the airlines.

I am done with this.

Humanity has advanced, when it has advanced, not because it has been sober, responsible, and cautious, but because it has been playful, rebellious, and immature.

People missing the point? It appears to be something common to French airports from what has been said.
Firstly, I never take such items into the place, I always pack them in my checked in bags. If you dont, then you must be aware by now that someone is likely to suggest you cant take it thanks to some stupid sub rule or another.
However, this person clearly chose to ignore the sign, albeit a scrap of paper, and is now conplaing about a destroyed boot. Sorry to sound unsympathetic, but destroyed....thats almost funny its gone that far!

First rule of ski trips: put your boots in your suitcase.

No more questions your honour.
