Ski Boots Not Allowed in Cabin

On the way back from Grenoble with guess who (Ryan expensive extras Air) I was having trouble making the baggage allowance (faulty scales but that is a different story) and put a ski boot in the bag I would take as cabin baggage. There was a tacky paper sign on the check in counter say8ing "no boots in the cabin" but no other warnings.
Security confiscated the boot (it was too late to return to check in) saying it was against French Law to put boots in the cabin. Despite promises from the Grenoble authorities, the boot has now been destroyed which is irritating as it was specially modified to fit a bad bunion.
Does anyone have experience of this and, in particular
1. Has anyone flown from Grenoble with ski boots or helmet in the cabin
2. Has anyone flown from any french airport with ski boots or helmet in the cabin
3. has anyone heard of this alleged French law and/or know the offical reference to it
4. Does anyone have any ideas what I might do about it (other than cry and then buy some more!!)

Depending on what boots they were I would offer the other one up to Disability Snowsport UK, I would imagine they would have a use for it.
For the record, Chambery have the same A4 sheets of paper with the same message scrawled on, every now and again the check in person asks you to confirm that all that sorta kit is in your checked baggage.

Pablo Escobar wrote:So you put a boot in your hand luggage despite the sign? Sounds like you have no complaint to me if you noticed the sign and purposely disobeyed the signage request. You could have even confirmed with the check in agent?! Sack it up and buy some new boots. (Sorry to spill the harsh reality on to you).
Think this is harsh and uncalled for. The real issue here is that the budget airlines are cashing in on terrorism. We can't carry liquids in the cabin and coincidentally they start charging to check bags in to the hold - which the vast majority of us now have to do.
Now this is just a further example where they can charge a hefty premium for excess baggage. And i'm not against companies making a profit but think it's disgusting that it stems from terrorism.
Apparently it is something happening across French airports - a friend flying with Jet2 from Chambery has been emailed to say the same - he can't take ski boots into the cabin in france. Stems from the shoe bomber incident and I've seen in other places in Europe (Geneva) shoes being fully xrayed.

Example: couple on my JET2 (budget airline) flight from Edinburgh to Chambery wearing their touring boots. Fine on leg out, on return they were taking them off in the check in area to pack them in to their bags. The staff being more than helpful.
Ignorance is no excuse.
Harsh and uncalled for? Please.

A girlfriend took her high heels off and had to send them into the hold as she was told she could not carry them onto the aircraft. She was told she either had to put them on or check them in
Have I posted this before?

It must be just some authorities, but you can bet if Ryanair think they will squeeze more money 'cause you have to put them in the hold they will very soon.

My post clearly stated it was the country not the airline so not sure why you repeated that.
The point is the airline are telling you at the last minute in this instance, when you can't do anything else other than pay their charges.
I repeat I think it's wrong that they try to cash in on this element.
Please what?
