@Wanderer
I am sure he will be welcome in bars but he will be exhausted so a late night in the pub is unlikely to be welcome

Our first time, we were all in bed by 9pm we were so knackered! :shock:

Is it correct that you also need lift passes as well as ski school fees?
If so are under fives free? Is the ski school a couple of hours in the morning and a couple of hours in the afternoon? So if all works out well and the little one can go to ski school, would I as a non skier be able to spectate?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hi There,

We took our 4 year old 2 years ago to Niederau to learn to ski. He didn't require a lift pass as the instructors take them up on theirs. Your husband will need a pass and your 4 year old can go up the lifts with him. To start with on one button lift together and as confidence grows your son can go up by himself. The ski lift operators are very helpful where this is concerned. ie. slowing the lifts down until they are comfortable getting on them. The instructors will show your husband how to go up together initially if you ask.

Our 4 year old was using the button lifts by himself on the second day.

As regards to spectating. You can easily see them taking the lessons from the bottom of the slope or in the nursery section. However, by the third day they are taken up to the top of the mountain via the Gondola and if you wish to go up with them then you will need a pass, which can be purchased daily if you wish. It's worth going to the top at least once if you're not skiing just for the view, which is fantastic.

As regards to ski gear. You can great deals on ebay. However, as you're going this weekend, be aware of delivery time. otherwise TKMax is great for cheap clothing. This is where we get our sons from. Jacket £40.00, salopettes £30.00.

Hope this helps. Have fun. We did.

I would think that even for non skiers in a snowy climate you would all need good jackets, sallo's and thermals. Normal jeans, cords etc will become wet and very cold. Sorry to add to your finances.

Yep just as everyone else has said you need the proper clothing and
that does`nt mean you have to pay the earth. Also get some decent foot wear, If your cold you wont enjoy it and will be less likely to book another holiday,Under 5`s ski free in Niederau. Hope you all have a great time. )

First of all a BIG Thank you to Everyone, all your replies have been so helpful. I would love to Ski but unfortunately 12 weeks ago i acquired a prolapse disc so daren't do anything until it has been fixed! (sounds like i could fix it with super glue lol!)

I have one more question, I have looked on the website skiset for the shop margreiter and although i can get my son's sizes for boots and ski's the minium age on their is showing as 6, does that mean we will not be able to hire them? Also their is an option to hire a helmet but it won't allow me to check the box?

Glyn, thanks for the offer, we managed to pick some ski gear up for the little one today!

Go and see Eric at the Margreiter he`ll sort you out. They cater for kids as young as 4yrs but as for a helmet you might have to book to be sure of getting one. Have you tried emailing them your details ?

I have also prepaid with skiset for our skis and boots and like you it wouldnt let us check the box for helmets. We have hired ours from the same place we hired our ski suits for £12. Just an option in case you are worried
