I agree they both have thier plus points. I have been to La PLagne, Val d'Isere and Tignes and enjoyed the boarding, but as a holiday where the sport is tempered with eveing activities, picturesque villages and beer, I must say I prefer Austria.

I think for value for money Austria is a good deal cheaper. I live here in Austria now and my first holiday was in Mayrhofen ( 32 years ago ! ) . We had a great time , the village is loveley. But for even better value there are so many other villages which are not on the main "Package" radar and much cheaper. Depends how much apres ski you want, my village Leogang is fairly quiet but is linked to fantastic ski area ( wwwskicircus.at ) . If you want to be more specific about what you are looking for i will be happy to advise.

Chamonix is great in March as it's not too busy and you moving into the Spring weather where you can great snow and sunshine too.

A pint of lager is about €4.50 to €5

Sauze D'Oulx is a great place for a moving experience - there are a few good smaller, really enjoyable Italian resorts close - Bardonecchia, Sestriere, Montgenvre. And the joint 2nd biggest resort in Europe is just over an hour by bus from Oulx town bus station - Serre Chevalier, just across the border in France, lots of greens, blues, reds, blacks and a Nordic area at the far end (Monetier) with ski parks. The bus leaves around midday (Autocars Resalp) drops you at Briancon, which lies between a few mountains, on the foot of the small, French part of Montgenevre mountain.

If you're into Nordic skiing, Nevache is worth visiting for a day or more from Briancon.

Chamonix is great, but where is Myrhofen - sounds Germanic?
