No I don't think it's clever editing.
But she had to split the feet and drive off the right fish-tail to complete the 360?

Ok so forgive me for not providing a web link or exact details, but whilst watching an FIS slalom competition in January/ February 2008, one of the competitors, (I know not who) after crossing the finish line, did the exact same 360 routine, but with oodles more panache and obvious expertise, than illustrated person could hope for in 2.5 lifetimes.

Were they carving or skiding around the circle ?
If there was snow flying (the panache), they were skiding.

When this is done on alpine snowboards, it is possible to to use only the rear half of the board and carve a smaller circle. This is considered cheating, but I notice if I want to tighten a turn on skis I do the same. Maybe that's what The Meercat saw.

Made it about 230 or so, but the snow was slushy and slow.

Great effort and top marks to you for picking up the gauntlet :) I had a few attempts at this yesterday and whilst I didn't make it I "feel" that with the right slope and speed (although I can't decide what they might be) this is doable :)

I suspect the idea of an off camber slope might be important and probably not too much speed (which will help make a tighter turn) ... May the empirical testing continue!

I also notice that Mr Pavel hasn't provided the definitive view on this subject ... Maybe he could save us having to go out skiing day after day to find out the truth!!

Thanks Jan. I think you might add the right radius to the right speed. The speed has to be perfect for the skis radius sidecut, unforced decamber and inclination. IOW the ski's natural turn. It may be a good way to establish this sweet spot for a given ski.

I also wonder whether a simple radius might be best. A compound radius designed for easy turn initiation and exit might not run a smoothly through an extended turn [I like to over think problems :lol: ].

I did it today (nobody to video). It was as you thought Jan - I used a bank to one side of the run and just about had enough speed to get to the point of comming down the bank to complete the circle. I tightened up the turn from the previous try and that helped too. I think that with some practice, it could look a lot smoother. A problem with the bank is that it is hard to keep the skis on edge and still balance at a slow speed. That is your skis are almost flat and not really carving at the top of the bank.
