Right,

Just as soon as it stops dumping great wads of fresh powder and I get back on the piste, I'm gonna go out and nail me one of those babies 8)

As a slight aside Trencher, and please don't think I'm trying to be clever but you mention an "alpine" snowboard, is there any other type?

It's confusing I know, But AJ has it right.

Alpine generally refers to race type boards used with hard boots. Bindings are set at high angles 50 to 75 degrees. There are some narrow free ride boards designed to be used with hard boots. The high binding angles allow for better angulation and easier carving.

Another category not mentioned would be powder boards. Ridden with hard or soft boots, of various designs, but all having substantial taper.

I had had been meaning to ask you Jan, if you had tried alpine snowboarding when you had mentioned boarding previousely.

Thanks AJ & Trencher :)

& there was me thinking snowboarding was snowboarding was snowboarding, just goes to show there's always something to learn !!

As for my snowboarding experience, I had soft boots and a board where my feet were nearly perpendicular to the way I was travelling. It was a rental board and I have no doubt was a very basic one at that ...

It was fun in it's own way though!

Monoboards/monoskis make me laugh (no offense meant). We now know how restricting it is to ski with your knees and boots together. Imagine having your boots fixed in that position. I'm told there are people who are great on monoskis, just that I've never seen anyone looking good (unless you like the feet together style). Deer Valley,Utah is a good place to see them. They might have had an advantage over skis in powder years ago, but that was befor skis got fatter and shorter.

I do have a Skwal, which is fun for a change now and again. The bindings are one behind the other and waist is only about 100mm or so. Unlike on a monoski, it is possible to angulate well on a skwal and so carving is easy. Infact that's all it's good for, carving.

I never did it myself Trencher but was curious to see if any one else had tried it.
I haven`t see anyone for near on 15 years doing it, In fact i think it was Niederau where i first saw it done and that must be 20 years plus.
