Jacket/pants 4 years. Boots new this season. Goggles 10 years plus! Helmet new this season after I split my old one wide open in a nasty accident involving a metal pole.
Insulated gloves 10 years plus, I run hot so I've only ever worn proper gloves in January in Canada. I usually wear kids "magic gloves" from the pound shop although I always have proper gloves in my pocket just in case we get stuck on an exposed lift or the weather turns.
I rent skis currently.

Unless you are skiing a lot perhaps better just to rent.

I know, people tell me this all the time and having rented skis out in the past I agree. Yet I like my skis, I know them well and there is something about them that the skis I have hired did not have.

Because of the cost of carrage I will be hiring skis on my next trip

Is there any way of determiing how old a pair of boots is?(I can imagine the ridicule I am letting myself in for). I bought mine second-hand and am curious how old they are. Are there markings that would give a clue, or something?

Most boot models get at least a cosmetic revision every season so a search of Google images on the model name should lead you there...

Otherwise just post a picture here and we can all laugh, er help you out.

As for my stuff, blimey...

Lid, current one 4-5 years old I think, might upgrade to better ventilated model next season
Goggles - 7+ years, no plan to change.
Jackets - current pair both 3-4 years old.
Trousers - 10-year-old Salomons that refuse to wear out and some HH that are 3 years old and will probably fail first...

Think pretty much all my current stuff has been picked up in end-of-season sales or through SportPursuit and the like. Save money = buy more stuff! 8)

Edited To Add :-

Boots - if they're good, keep 'em til they're done. My trusty X-Wave9s finally went to recycling last year after (I think) 12 years.

I change skis on a average every two years, boots I try to keep for as long as I can, jackets and pants I change every 3-4 seasons when I want new colours. Gloves - as soon as they start leaking.

Ooh, bit harsh!

I still have nightmares remembering many years ago when a mate turned up in a red, white and blue one-piece from C&A... It certainly stood out. Obviously the rest of us, who tended to favour Elho gear in those days (don't Google that without putting your shades on) looked sooo much better... 8)

At least North Face stuff looks alright as a rule (don't think much from Rodeo ever did).
