Apre-Ski in Niederau is indeed pretty lame frankly.

Yep its true that if youre after drunken teenagers stumbling from one bar to another, then Niederau is lame.
I went January 2010 and I had an absolutely superb time. You may have remembered me (if you were there) doing the skischool slalom in a 1980s slalom racing suit. Yes it was a drinking session the night before that reared that idea!!
Its a brilliant place to go and even though the runs are not taxing, the friendly apres ski is the reason I am going back there next January.

Well I was there most of last season, and found all the bars generally 30% full at best. Even at weekends etc. I hope it is better this year.

Just something I noticed, but when you trawl online for bargain package tours, its always Niederau that comes up. With Johnny noticing the place was quiet, would this have any bearing on why its always Niederau accommodation that comes up at knockdown prices, or is there another reason for this?
The other places that come up regularly are Soll (which I would have thought was very popular with Brits) and Pal in Andorra.

They are indeed struggling to fill the beds these days. Bookings come in later and later every year, and I guess therefore at discounts.

This is part of the reason that they have agreed to the new skilift link between Auffach and Alpbach being built at considerable expense next summer. Beds filled have gradually been falling away over the last 10 years according to the official stats.

That said......I see plenty of people on the slopes and in the bars during the day (some of course commuting from Munich, but not that many).

I think it is such a "family" resort that there simply isn't the drinking enthusiasm you get at bigger resorts. People have dinner and go to bed.

O'Malleys can get vaguely busy, and the White Rabbit sometimes with younger crowd. Most people end up in the Cave Bar later on......but it is all very patchy, and hit and miss, and generally quiet!!!
