Maybe, but that's not what you said. Avoriaz lower slopes are not 'that low'.

Anyway - they asked a question and now have 2 viewpoints to consider  8)

The snow seems to be falling quite well now, and by the looks of it more to follow. Good news for all those heading out there (me included!!!).

Happy skiing wherever you go.

14 days of snow in Chamonix now forecast. Definitely fantastic conditions now, really just need more sun.

Not in Austria it aint!!!!
Just back from a week without a drop of fresh snow and they a re really struggling. However they have managed to keep pretty much everything open in Bad Gastein, I dont know about other resorts nearby. I was getting emails daily about how much was falling in the western alps, annoyed isnt the word. But we made the best of it, and found some excellent skiing conditions above 1500m mainly. Sadly, looking across the valleys you see lots of green fields which is not a pleasant sight in January.
Mate of mine said they had a big dump in Flaine the day he arrived but by midweek they were closing runs even high up.
However in BG we were able to ski right off to 1000m or lower, albeit "testing" conditions!
I wouldnt want to be going this coming week though.....

It wasnt bleak. We skied all day every day. But it could have been a lot better with good snow. It could also have been a lot worse like my mate found in Flaine the week earlier when pistes were being closed.

Just back from the ski welt and Niederau and had a brilliant time. OK so the depths aren't as high as other places but the skiing was really good. The piste management in these "low Austrian" resorts is second to none and to be honest after the first run on Sunday nobody was talking about the lack of snow, just how good the conditions were. There was snow Tuesday and Wednesday and fairly low temps at night to maintain it. It was very noticeable that people had been put off by the snow conditions-hotels and slopes were very quiet. Good for us but not for the people who make a living out of the ski season. So enough of your "low Austrian resort" bashing especially if like some peopleposting here have never actually been there.
