Chamonix just started snowing again, 15cm forecast for slopes which should be 20+cm for the Midi and Grand Montets. Skiing in Les Houches yesterday St Gervais, Megeve etc in distance looked to have full cover. Can't believe any resort in N France will have issues after week we have coming.

I've just been skiing thank you-in Austria. What you don't seem to realise is that people are seriously considering cancelling their holiday and losing the money because people are posting negative comments and waxing eloquently about a place they haven't been to. There is good skiing in Austria- Yes the snow perhaps is as good as elsewhere in the world but its no reason not to go. Unless you have more money than sense and can afford to throw it away.

I would never advocate cancelling a holiday. If you don't like your friends or families company, fresh air, good food, good wine, good coffee and amazing scenery then might factor into equation. If the lowest resorts in France are now well covered up am sure Austria is fine. Plus is you look at forecast, weather is now coming from W and NW vs the SW which has served Italy and Pyrenees so well with snow whilst keeping northern and eastern resorts both warm and dry. SW will blow N France and Austria have no snow. NW will blow and N France and Austria will have snow.
I still strongly believe will be a long season, everywhere in Alps has a base and Feb is looking both cold and snowy. Quite a bit of snow snobery about given last 2 epic years, most resorts are within 10 days of seasonal average and next 2 weeks will likely eliminate this. Skiing is something we do from Mid Dec-Early May so not every run will be pristine, all part of the game. Only way to guarantee pristine is to invest in new cords.

SnowLily, I never considered cancelling my holiday because of the lack of snow. We did go fearing it may be grim, but same as you - once we got up there and got on with it we were not talking about conditions, until it came to head off the mountain lower down where I have to be honest and say it was not at all pleasant where we were. But I dont think anyone in the UK is not going because of conditions, maybe locals and people who would normally drive in nearby countries are not going but people certainly wouldnt cancel and lose their money, as there is always some skiing to be had, and worst case scenario is you will be bussed elsewhere.

Have to say the webcams from the Alpbachtal look a bit more like winter this morning after snow yesterday!
