Do you mean the cafe you can see on the left in this photo, or is it a different one?
This is another October 2009 photo so my apologies for the lack of snow in it. You walk past the archway to get to the bottom of the funicular in Val Claret, which takes you up to the Grande Motte glacier.

It doesn't look like they've had any more snow, and the forecast seems to be sun for the next few days. Never mind - there's plenty of time before the 13th January :D
I took a still off the Grande Motte webcam this morning, showing Le Panoramic restaurant, and you can see what an amazing construction it is, perched on top of the mountain:

I finally found the website for the Panoramic restaurant, and I've pasted in part of the restaurant description. It seem they have a snack bar, self-service restaurant, and a gourmet restaurant with grilled lobster etc.

LE PANORAMIC
Welcome to the Panoramic at 3032 metres altitude on the Grande Motte glacier in Tignes. It was in this unique high-mountain playground that, to the delight of food lovers, Jean-Michel Bouvier set up his restaurant in the autumn of 2011. Each day, the chef concocts a lunch special to be savoured whilst soaking up the breathtaking 360° panoramic view. Accessible on skis or on foot (via the
funicular), it is the legendary spot in the Tignes – Val d'Isère Espace Killy ski area. Ski suit required!
With 3 different timings and 3 different options, there is something for everyone: the snack-bar for a quick snack on the go when you come out of the funicular, the self-service restaurant for a simple lunch made from local produce or the gourmet restaurant for gastronomic enthusiasts. Wearing their traditional Savoyard berets, members of staff give you a warm welcome in each of the different areas of the restaurant. You will leave feeling on top form, ready to race down the pistes.

Nope.
The one to the right of the funicular base station as you view it from Val Claret and to the left of Les Lanches chair.
It is just a load of tables outside, not a formal restaurant.
You can see a few umbrellas in the Val Claret webcam.
Probably a bit cold for january though.

Less than 48 hours between these photos.

That's exactly what we want - a huge load of snow just before we get there, or possibly overnight, and then beautiful sunshine all the time we're ski-ing.
Has anyone got a photo of the mountain restaurant OldAndy was talking about - up the top of the Tichot chair above Val Claret? It seems to be called 'The Palet' but I can't find anything about it.
It's next to the ski tranquille area on the Palet, so maybe even the beginners in our group could get up there for lunch, if they got the free ski bus to Val Claret.

I was thinking, maybe on the first Sunday, before everyone else turns up, Cat and I could have a lovely day doing a sort of pub crawl to all the restaurants on my list, and check out the prices etc. :D
And then we could decide which ones are worth a further visit by the group.
1. Le Palet - top of the Tichot chair above Val Claret.
2. Le Panoramic - top of the funicular from Val Claret to the Grande Motte glacier.
3. Le Bar de L'Ouillette - at the bottom of the Madeleine piste, on the Solaise above Val d'Isere.
4. The Alpage/Soli - at the top of the Chaudannes lift above Le Lac, and the closest mountain restaurant to les Brevieres.
5. Les Clochetons - at the bottom of the Santons piste, just before you get into the Val d'Isere village.
6. Le Signal - at the top of the Fornet cable car in Val d'Isere.
7. Le Triffolet - above La Daille, by the OK and Criterium pistes etc.
8. The Edelweiss - on the blue Manguard piste above Le Fornet.
9. La Folie Douce/La Fruitiere - at the top of the cable car up from La Daille.

Ally, are you going to manage to fit in some skiing whilst you are there? -)
