Ally ...
Top Tip for you.

With your extended pub crawl make sure you have money for your taxi from Val D'Isere to Les Brevieres as finishibg at the Folie Douce could easily be your undoing.

We seem to be on another new page now, so if there's anyone else who'd like to come with us on this J2Ski group holiday to Tignes, would they please let me know either by posting up on here, or by sending me a pm. Luckily we are booked into a large chalet and there are still some rooms left :D

The total price is around £850 which includes £399 for a shared double/twin room, or £800 which includes £350 for 4 adults in a quad room, including the cost of flights, transfers, lift pass, and ski hire. You may have to pay more depending on the availability/price of flights from your local airport.

We also have J2Skiers driving themselves to Tignes Les Brevieres, and I am getting there on the train.

Andy - yes, I am going to have to plan this pub crawl very carefully. I don't fancy having to pay for a taxi from Val d'Isere to Tignes les Brevieres!

Most of the lifts shut at about 4-30 p.m. If we're in the Val d'Isere ski area we'll have to make sure we catch the Olympique cable car well before 4-30 so that we've got time to catch another lift to get into the Tignes ski area.

Looking at the piste map I think we'd probably have to get either the Borsat Express chairlift, or the Tommeuses chairlift after the Olympique.

Once we're in the Tignes area we can always get the free ski bus to Les Boisses, even if the rest of the lifts have shut, and then ski down to Les Brevieres, as long as we get to Les Boisses before dark. I wouldn't much fancy ski-ing down in the dark even though it's an easy blue, and I'm sure it's against all the piste safety rules, although I expect it's possible with a good torch.

There's also a paying bus that runs from Val d'Isere to Les Boisses. My daughter's uni group had to catch this because they stayed too long in the Val d'Isere area and the Olympique had shut and they needed to get back to Val Claret. But I think even this one stops running after 5-30 p.m.

And yes BB, I am planning on fitting in a small amount of ski-ing in between all these restaurants

I think it's most likely that we will just have a quick recce in La Folie Douce/La Fruitiere and not eat or drink anything because it does look awfully expensive

And Daved - if you arrive in time on the first Sunday to join us on this pub crawl you'll have to forget all about your diet for the day!

If you click on the piste map below you can enlarge the sector you're interested in.

I had an e-mail from Bonjour (the chalet owner's) this afternoon, to say that everyone in the group has paid up :D

Well done everyone

I am very pleased. I think it's a really good omen for the holiday. I'm sure we'll all have a great time.

Anyone else wanting to join us now will have to pay the full amount for the chalet when they book - either £399 for a shared twin or double, £599 for sole occupancy of a twin or double room, or £350 per person for 4 adults sharing a quad room.

It's up to each individual when they pay for their ferry/plane flight/train, and transfers (unless they're through the chalet) and lift passes and ski hire/ski carriage.

I said I'd let everyone know when tickets for the French sleeper train between Paris and Bourg became available. So this is an update on that for either those considering coming with us on this group holiday to Tignes from London or Ashford, or those who are interested in going to ski resorts in the same area as us.

Getting this train means you can ski/board for 8 days.

I noticed these were available a couple of days ago, and I thought they were amazingly cheap - only £151 return from St Pancras to Bourg, going out on Saturday evening 12th January and coming back on Sunday evening 20th January.

Unfortunately I didn't post about it on here, and I've just checked this morning, and the price has gone up to £198-50 return. It obviously pays to get these tickets as soon as they come on sale. This price is for the Eurostar between London and Paris Nord, and a bunk in a 6 person couchette on the sleeper train between Paris Austerlitz and Bourg-St-Maurice. Of course, the tickets may still be at the reduced price for the following week - I haven't checked that.

For anyone interested in this, here are the details:

Departs London St Pancras 17-31 on Saturday 12th January, arrives Paris Nord 20-47 (Paris is one hour ahead of London).
Departs Paris Austerlitz 23-12 arrives Bourg 07-49 Sunday 13th January (sleeper train with bunks).

Departs Bourg Sunday 20th January 20-04, arrives Paris Austerlitz 06-31 (sleeper train with 4 and 6 person couchettes).
Departs Paris Nord 08-43 arrives St Pancras 10-00 Monday 21st January (Eurostar).

Changing stations between Paris Nord and Paris Austerlitz costs about 15-20 euros in a taxi, or 2 euros on the metro. It takes about 20 minutes but snowcarbon.co.uk advises to allow 50 minutes and says there are stairs if you go on the metro.

Brilliant!!
I've never been on a holiday with anyone who hasn't paid so don't know if it would affect having a good time or not. But I did find that very funny ally!!!

The thing is, Tony, I've never organized a group holiday before, but I have been letting holiday cottages for about 15 years through an agency, and I know very well that it can be difficult to persuade people to pay the balance of their holiday by the required date, which was 12 weeks ahead in this case.

So I am very pleased that everyone in the group paid their balance to Bonjour ahead of time! I didn't have to nag anyone 8) :D
