Hey guy's, well I've decided to purchase some new ski's as i'd prefer my own kit. I purchased boots today. Now into my parallel turns so from the guides I've read I'm around intermediate.
Basically I've been looking at the blizzard iqon 6900 and nordica hotrod over drive, I'm looking for an intermediate upwards ski for all mountain, around 70% on piste 30% off, maybe a little bit more on piste.
These seem ideal however i can't seem to find much on the nordica ski's and the blizzards have a waist of 69 and i'm not sure if i could do with something possibly a little wider for off piste??

Any views on these skis? I have also looked at atomic nomad high noons and whiteouts, how would these compare to the above?

Go to a good ski shop here or abroad with BUDGET in hand, talk to them about experience, and see what they advise. Hope that helps

Hugh. I have owned 2 pairs of Blizzard skis, my first were intermediate skis which were fine, but then I stepped up a level and needed better skis, and I now have X Cross 10's, which are 68 in the waist, but were fine doing some off piste. If you want to do off piste more, you will probably want wider skis, but I am more of a piste person so they are fine for my odd excursion down the edge of a mountain here and there.

I found that skiwarehouse have some good deals on Blizzard, and there is a guy in Newcastle called swisstimsskis who also has a variety at cheap prices, which is where I got mine from. £180 for £500 skis.

Let us know what you go for. Personally, if I was looking for 70% piste skis to do some off piste on, I'd have bought Scott Neos.

thanks for the reply guy's, yeah i don't intend to do to much off piste really. The blizzard iqon 6900's looked ideal i was just worried they'd be a little narrow at the waist. i'll keep searching and see what i can find. -Hugh

Hey guy's, well i've looked around and the blizzards and nordica overdrives are the only ski's i like the look of in terms of ability and price. Would these be very similar to each other? I'm very stuck on which set to go with.

Hugh, before you but the Iqon's, you ought to consider these skis:

http://swisstimsskis.com/component/page,shop.product_details/product_id,297/flypage,shop.flypage/pop,0/option,com_virtuemart/Itemid,49/

They are slightly narrower in the waist, but are an all mountain ski, and are of a superior standard, and the retailer is selling them at over £300 off the rrp.

They look like their aimed at someone quite advanced. I assume i should be looking for an intermediate to advanced set of skis?

My 2 cents. Go for a wider ski. I don't see the point of skis with waist less than mid 70s unless you are racing. The wider waist is not really noticable in free skiing on piste, but does help in soft snow. Go for something above what you think is your current ability. You will rise to the challenge. Just make sure they have a smaller sidecut radius as that's going to be a lot more fun on piste.
