hey all, just joined the site.
instead of hiring a board i decided to buy one to give boarding a go. i have never done it befor (done sking but this probly wont help, just means i no what to expect when i fall off) but it worked out cheaper buying some second hand gear than hireing it.
the board i have got is set up for a normal stance position, i am left handed so have been told it should be goofey? although i think i will feel more comfortable with it being standard set-up, if not though, can i change it? or do you have to have it proffesonally changed?

my second question is about my boots, i no this is going to sound a compleated weierd question to you all but here it goes. i brought the boots because they were my size and cheap, only problem is they have like orange parts on them yet my board is yellow, and i realize orange does not mach with yellow ...... woops so is there any way of dyeing the orrange parts? i no it seams a bit extreame but i was tempted by the price. i think the material of the orange parts are asort of vinyl or leather, i dont know for sure as i havent recived them yet.

ermm thats about it, any tips would be appriciated :D

cheers all

stand still with both feet together

get someone to push you

whatever foot goes forward first (naturally) should determine the foot at the front of the board

forgot to say,how do i get the board there? can ijust take it as a bag and check in in? (by the way, it is to Bulgaria, it is BA, they worked out cheaper than wizz! and probly a safer option the way airlines are going)

cheers

edy, If you google "snowboard stance", you will find more than you'll ever want to know. It's good to do a little research because there is more to it than just regular/goofy. Stance width and set back are important, as is how you position the bindings laterally across the board. The binding angles you use may depend upon the instruction method and the style of riding you would like to do.

There is little rhyme or reason to which side you face on a board.
If you use a straight across the board binding set up (O degrees), you will soon notice which direction you favour. Note that boards are directional and so that direction should be set up to be the front of the board. Don't be afraid to change your mind about this. Any time spent facing the other way is all good experience for riding fakie.

The easiest way to lose the orange on the boots is with a large black permanent marker pen. Otherwise, just get a Ronald McDonald outfit and the boots will match nicely.

Who says Orange and Yellow do not match? I am gonna have to re-think my living room

Good luck with it Edy, here is a couple of tips from me.

Take a good sturdy screwdriver out with you on your first few days, experiment a little with the binding set up.

Get comfortable on either foot forward if you can, as soon as you can, the benefit of this will become very clear later on.

Careful not to get ice in the screw-holes when tightening as you may damage the bottom of the board.

Also dont be afraid of some pain in the legs and change setup to get rid of it, you may find that you ride better in this position and its just your body is not used to it.

Gluhwein in the mornings, beer in the afternoon.

Good luck!

Whether you are regular or goofy doesn't depend on whether you're right/left handed at all. So why the showboard? I tried snowboarding first, knew after a day I wouldn't get on so went to skiing.. I'm okay but not briliant at all... My favourite experiences skiing have been doing the jumps in snoparks.. maybe I should try snowboard again.
