Tony_H wrote:Quads and core muscles are the ones to work on to help with "fitness". Funny this topic was raised, as I started my "skiing fitness campaign" 3 weeks ago, early September.
100 crunches, 25 leg lifts of 4 different sorts, and 50 each of 2 different type of upper body/abdominal stretches.
I also find keeping out of the pub as often helps.

Tony, page 2, (end of September).

What happened to you, Tony, to make you change your mind?

It is quite simple, really. There is a certain level of fitness one has to be, depending on what one is intending to do on one's ski holiday. And one needs to exercise to get up to this level before the holiday, unless one is already fit enough. The amount of exercise needed depends on the size of the disparity between the two fitness levels.

Why do you always jump to conclusions?
I said you dont have to be Mr Motivator, I didnt say I didnt do ANYTHING did I?
Since page 2 there has been a lot of talk of ridiculous amounts of fitness just for a weeks holiday, yourself in particular.
Try not eating so much )

Now, now ladies. No arguing on my thread please.

So, sadly I'm now back from Val D'isere, had a fabulous week and thought I would report on how I felt after not doing so much in the way of getting fit for skiing and how I coped.

As I have mentioned before, the only regular exercise I do is in the form of walking my dog, ie, not enough. I tried getting my bike out but it kept snowing, so I found that walking through deep snow for a week or so was quite good for my thighs and bottom, I also did a couple of weeks of leg/arm exercises before going.

This was probably enough for ME, I don't consider myself to be particularly fit or unfit but I did feel fit enough to ski for a week. I didn't struggle (apart from the one day when I had a hang over) and the only aching muscles I had were my calves, but it wasn't so much that it hindered my skiing. I found a hot bath at the end of the day soothed any tired muscles, plus a reasonable nights sleep (apart from the night I had fondue and was woken by a scary cheese dream and refused to go back to sleep) was enough for me.

But that's me, everyone is different and having started this thread some months ago I think this has been a useful exercise (no pun intended) to have monitored my often lack of enthusiasm for getting fit but doing just enough before going to enjoy my week.

The end :D

I am currentley doing lots of upper body exercise with light dumbells sitting on one of those big soft balls. Then a quick half hour on the stationary bike whilst watching Warren Miller DVDs, and have even started doing the O/H Pilates "Core challenge" don't know how I found time to work. )I do this five times a week but fall of the waggon on the weekends natch :)
Ready? I was born ready.
