I've just returned from Val thoren on sat and can confirm the skiing is very hard packed everywhere. The snow there is about the best across the whole 3 valleys. We ventured over to meribel but quickly turned back because the snow was rubbish. There was hundreds of people being bused up from meribel valley as the snow there has gone. There is currently no snow forecast for at least the next week and who knows after that..... The snow thread on snowheads is being monitored very closely.... I'm sure there will be a big dump before march or at least I'm keeping everything crossed as were returning on the 26th march. Overall though hard conditions aside we had an amazing time and managed to catch some sun. My OH however also managed to catch flu and is now on tamiflu amongst other potions.... It proves after 4 weeks of no snow that the pisteurs do a fantastic job and I really do take my hat off to them...

Thanks Crispyapplepie for the update on conditions in Val Thorens :D

They are forecasting 4 cm of snow for Tuesday week in Courchevel - not much I know but better than nothing. I am hoping there will be more to follow.

It is starting to look like there may be a break from the very dry conditions across France, hopefully the present warm conditions won't do too much damage before any new snow arrives.
Fingers crossed, dance shoes cleaned and polished!

Just so you can prepare yourself Kate - this is what Les Gets looked like on 18th January 2007! We had to go to Avoriaz every day where conditions were much better. Les Gets was offically closed for the whole week we were there, which meant I got a nice little chunk of insurance money back. I made sure I obtained a letter from the tourist office stating the dates of the closure.

By the 26th, & after 36 hours of snow, it looked like this & reopened! What a pity we had to go home that morning so didn't even get a chance to ski there. :(

Don't give up hope ..... it can all change very quickly!
The plan is.... there's no plan!

I know....I think it looks like the first pic at the moment! Last time we went in March 2007 there was no snow until the day before we flew out, then it snowed all week while we were there.

We're driving, so we can go elsewhere if necessary but it's not looking great anywhere out there just now!

The snow forecast for Courchevel now says:

1 cm snow Saturday afternoon
1 cm snow Saturday night
1 cm snow Monday night
Snow showers Wednesday (16th).

But I don't suppose it's very reliable - judging by the poor forecasting we get here in the U.K.

Let's hope they're wrong and we get far more snow than that!

The forecast I saw for Corch said no snow for 2 weeks, and high temps.
