On the mountain best restaurant is on top of chair 1 in Mottolino. Beautiful and sunny with some good music and views.

I have to agree with that. The restaurant above the self service serves some of the best pasta I have ever had (that may be attributed to the environment, company and exhilaration from Skiing, but you get the drift). And when I was there it was cooked by a Scotsman. Good value too, for a sit down served meal on the piste.

Okay, finally booked trip to Livigno & am off there Saturday week :D But before I go can anyone advise which 'chair' to avoid..........have read about a very slow chair that takes about 25mins  to get from bottom to top but cant recall where I 'saw' that; also, any other usefull info not included in this thread would be most gratefully received.
Thanks in advance

Hi All,

Skied Livigno 3 years ago and had a great time - it's wonderful intermediate terrain that will have you gain in confidence on reds and some easy blacks as it's wide, sunny and, as already noted, tends to be pretty quiet.

Transfer is a pain - we flew into Austria and took forever to get there but the bottles of Absolut for £4 made up for it (handy hint - an Absolut bottle fits into your boots perfectly with the clips on one notch - ideal transport home....)

The bus service is excellent - yes the two mountains are separated by the valley but it takes no time to get from Carasello to Mottolino and vice versa and it's never bothered Kitzbuhel between the Horn and the Hannenkham so why should Livigno worry? Taxis in the evening are plentiful and cheap so, if you're not bothered about too much nightlife, it will cause you no problems (the slide-in bar is very cool).

The sloooooooooooooow chair you mention is numbered 6 on my piste map and goes from top of Mottolino gondola to Mont Della Neve. It's very old, slow and you get cold on it (or did 3 years ago - we may be doing it a disservice if its been replaced) but there's a nice cruisy run down from there with beautiful views so worth putting up with at least once during your trip. The run down over the ridge to Trepalle is nice too as I remember (apparently its called "3 Balls" as its so remote and there's lots of interbreeding - or so our Italian instructor told us with a twinkle in his eye !)

Enjoy it!

Andy

That's the one. It's not too bad unless there is a howling gale blowing, then stay away from it. It is actually quicker though to ski across to the before mentioned mountain restaurant (down a very easy black) then get the chair up from there.

That it is - I'd forgotten about that one!
