Although a modern resort built from local stone, I think " a sh*t hole" is some what harsh, perhaps your mixing it up Ross with Pas de la Casa which is a Sh*t hole.

I would class Seefeld/Austria a fantastic beginners place. Short transfer from Innsbruck, 3 seperate area's to ski, and nursery slopes completely seperate from the main. Great ski schools and hire shops.

Before anyone laughs try Zakopane in Poland. Easy to get to via Krakow, nice snow, cheap accommodation, cheap food and booze. There are a couple of agents that do a package...try Sunshine World they are very good with English instructors (Alan Garcia is the guy to speak to)
