Soldeu already has snow and its looking like a bumper season. It has shaken off its party reputation and has gone upmarket in the last few years catering for families and couples rather than piss heads.

Maybe you can narrow it down by finding out which airports are handy from your location and then looking for nearby resorts.

Blue runs that go all the way down to the start are very important for the beginner. It is a bit scary when you have to worry about missing the end of a blue that turns into a black for the final descent.

Take a look at www.lesgets.com
One hour from Geneva, well known as good for beginners, lots of english ski schools (Tim Scott is excellent) the French ski schools also usally speak good English (we had lessons from Jean Luc Taminini last year - he was fantastic). Beautiful traditional mountain village, not over expensive. Queues not as long as in the more well known (and very expensive) resorts.

I skied for the first time last year, We went to Filzmoos in Austria, only a small resort but a great starting place. We enjoyed it so much we are going back in Feb.

If you were considering Les Gets - I'd suggest going a little further up the hill to Avoriaz.

The nursery slopes are either within the town or just outside.

No traffic.

Ski in / out almost everywhere.

Very kid friendly.

Excellent English ski school.

1800m - so good snow record.

Part of la Portes de Soleiu - therefore lots of runs if you want to get off and good explore will the kids are learning.
You'll never know, unless you try...
