Good thread this one, and popular too.
Firstly, there is no such thing as a good American beer. Fact, end of.
Second, I am surprised with the number of responses mentioning the garbage that is weissbier, or Leffe, or other such similar weird fruity nonesnes. You will be telling me next that you like cherry or strawberry flavoured beers.....
Thirdly, no one mentioned the fantastically names Wieselberger (for some reason it always makes me laugh out loud), of which a lot was consumed when I went to BKK. Anyone else tried it?
I believe we also had Zipfer a lot in Austria, but it isnt worthy of being mentioned in the same sentence as Zillertaller Pils.

1, For a UK style beer - Inveralmond's Lia Fail (dark, malty, hints of fruit, and very well balanced)
2, Lager - Eggenberg Dark (a Czech dark lager full of flavour and a good thirst quencher)
3, For something different Traquair House's Bear Gate (a strong wee heavy)

Well, now to go with beer, one needs a cigarrette, and the wonderful democracy I live in has just made it legal again :)
The Federal Court here in Karlsruhe just said that all small single roomed pubs with less than 75 squre meters in space can light up again.....
I love the burocracy in this country sometimes!!

Having given up smoking 5 years ago, I can verify that the LAST thing you need when you are having a beer is a cigarette. When you visit countries where there is not a ban, you realise what a good thing it is that we have one over here. The europeans have a particularly bad habit of smoking over dinner, and not taking into consideration those around them who are eating and who dont want smoke blowing in their faces.
Having given up, I can honestly say that those who do smoke, your clothes stink, as does your breath, and smoking is the main cause of headaches with a hangover - I just dont get them anymore.
Mrs H is an irregular smoker, but I hate the smell on her when she comes in after a fag, and I particularly hate the fact that she is trying to give herself and long and painful death, which I will no doubt have to witness.
