And bet your glad you've gone to St Anton rather than France where officials reckon only 6,000 or so of 35,000 vehicles on their way to the alpine resorts have made it today. The worst transfer day in history, apparently, due to heavy snow and accidents/blockages due to cars without winter tyres and properly-fitted chains.
i had a great morning skiing but packed in at lunch to get over a cold, rather enjoy the whole week feeling fit and not kill myself on the first day.
i chuckled when you mentioned winter tyres/snow chains. I ski as much as i can in Australia during the winter season and always carry chains. I lost count of the number of cars mostly AWD's with their arse poking out of a ditch on the alpine way after fresh snow. Some of these drivers just have no clue and assume AWD means they can drive like its the summer, the highlight was the chap fitting chains to the front of his real wheel drive car at the bottom of the hill.
