I can't speak for all of Austria but I just got back from St Anton yesterday 13th Jan.

Conditions were better than most other places but still poor.
there was a lot of rain lower down and a lost of slush and Ice. If you are an intermediate or advanced skier you can get to a lot of higher up slopes which are good I spent most of my time on Black 2 down from Galzig and black 25 from Gampen and reds 37 and 24a to ski down the mountain.

When you got lower than 1800 meters it was unpleasant above that it was ok but visiblity was usually bad but then low visibility only ads to the thrill I say.

Lessons for begginers would not be fun they were done at the bottom of Nasserein bahn which on slopes which were a mixture of sheet ice, slush and grass as it would typically rain over night and thin out what scraps of snow there were and then freeze over in the mornig only to slush up in the afternoon.

I had a great time skiing though it did snow for 4 days straight and I skied 12 out of 14 days and I wasn't dissapointed I believe if we hadn't have gone to ST Anton however I would have been extremely dissapointed.

It was snowing when we left yesterday morning early don't know what it is doing now but I'd say if you are going to Austria you need to be heading in the St Anton Direction if you want to ski at all.

Hope this Helps
Cheers

Max

I just got back from Obergurgl and the conditions were fantastic. We had 4 days of sunshine and 2 days of snow fall. If anybody is after snow at the moment in Europe I would recommend it.

Group of 34 of us goimg to Ellmau in the Ski Welt next Saturday and beginning to get really worried about the lack of snow. The Web Cam shows more grass than snow and most lifts seem closed - I wonder if ther's any real ski ing at all there. I suppose it'll teach us in risking a return to a low lying area after having perfect conditions there last year. Only hope is that snow is expected next week though the amount seems to continually be down-graded. Anyone know any more about either Ski Welt conditions or predictions for nest week??

We are in the same boat old boy, but Soll is our destination. Though I'm massively confident of a huge dump next week...... Keep off the web cams that's what I say and get yourself to evening prayer tomorrow.

But don't forget your walking boots....

Enjoy your holiday

Clouds are gathering could be good news could be bad depends on the temperature, Fingers crossed and all being good it could be snow if you are unlucky it could be rain.

At the moment there has been no snow, a little rain and some sun and it is said that what snow there is is deteriorating rapidly.

You still have 2 weeks though so don't pull your hair out yet.

Cheers

max
