Courchevel is about a half hour transfer from Moutiers train station, which is on the direct line from St Pancras Eurostar or RailEurope (or change in Paris). Moutiers is also about half an hour from Val Thorens, depending on if you get the bus or a taxi.

The Tarentaise is memorable for me, for being the 1st time I saw a motorway with traffic lights, to stop traffic when Moutiers is busy.

Much prefer to either drive (more civilised) or fly and take a regular transfer, or SwissRail and Postbus to my usual destination.

From a totally biased point of view i would say Les Arcs without a doubt, (although 1950 or 2000) would be a better choice than 1600 or 1800, as the run down into 1600 although wide and of a gradient that will flatter anyones skiing, the middle section can be moguled if you are worried about moguls.
The runs above 1600 and 1800 are excellent for building confidence and ability and the resort has an excellent reputation from those in the know, it also doesn't seem to get as crowded as some other resorts do. :D
Fail in that you could also give Serre Chevaliere , La Rosiere ,La Plagne a go. :D
All the best,
jon :D

Shortish transfer from Chambery, a little bit more scenic charm than average in France in the village - and a good variety of easy, cruising runs spread over a surprisingly large ski area.
There are even long green runs, if that's your thing, in some of the satellite villages.
A few years since I went there, but remember it was not so expensive as many of the supposed glamour resorts of France.
