I'm in the "it's thier heretige" camp on this one. If there were picture of thier current family in nazi uniforms now then that may be slightly different!

On another (slightly more cheerful) note..... The nightslalom is taking place on Tuesday week and back in June i emailed the ticket office there and were told that all the tickets for down by the finishing line were already sold out. The only tickets you can buy now and upto the day are Red(i think) tickets which are just general ones up the side of the slope.

Any tips on best places to stand and watch? How early do you need to get there to get a decent view?

We've already got our hip flasks ready so that we can keep ourselves topped up with something warming!

This time next week!!!! :D

When you finish skiing on the day of the race, if you dont leave you can stay in the area, however once you leave yo will not back in without a ticket as they barrier the area into two cordoned off areas. Take in a bit of the atmosphere then walk towards town as they have outdoor bands, bars, food stalls, etc. The place goes nuts and the town is abit like it the night before. Depending where you are staying trying a get a taxi on the day of the race if you need to get home is a mare.
It is literally liike the circus coming to town and there will be a few drunk Austrians on show and so there should be.

My group of 6 is travelling within a big group of 40, we are flying with Thomson saturday afternoon at about 1430 hrs. Stay at a delightful Alpenhotel Neuwirt which is a about 2.5k out of town.

no_snow_in_swindon they are expecting quite a fall of the white stuff midweek just in time for our arrival but have no fear they can get by without it!! On the 4 mountains they have 640+ snow cannons in case of emegencies and when we were there 2 years ago which was the mildest winter in 40 years and literally everything other than piste was green the skiing was still fantastic.
My personl favourite mountain is the Haiber Kaisling which is to the left of Schladming Town and Planai mountain as you look at it. You will be spolit for choice.

Sounds good. We're staying in the town centre i think so should be in amongst all the fun!

Is that the Thomson flight from Gatwick. If it is it'll be the same flight as us. The wife's a nervous flyer so we'll be getting away from the crowd abit by going into one of the lounges. £18 seemed a good deal for the comfy seats and peace and quiet (not forgetting the complimentary beer! lol)
