They once sold me a flight in a time slot they didn't actually have at Stansted, only several months later when they realised I was serious about legal action did they finaly give me a refund - ****** chancers.

All airlines do that, the slots are not confirmed until sometime after the flights go on sale. Exactly the same thing just happened with Easyjet slots for the winter and I expect I'm not the only one here whose flights have been altered as a result.

I'm guessing neither of us has a copy of the Ryanair contract with their baggage handlers though )

I doubt staff receive receive a bonus but I'd imagine the handling agents receive a per transaction charge. In fact I doubt the check-in staff are Ryanair employees either.

What will actually be the case is they limit the baggage weight to reduce payload in the first instance. Extra bags or extra weight count as separate or extended transaction which their agent charge them for and they pass on.

Lets just say, that the uniformed staff (whoever they represented) I met at both Luton and Reus recently, were amazingly keen to issue excess baggage slips. The weighing scales were also somewhat over enthusiastic, and based on information supplied by Mitsubishi, doing the maths ) , my plain old Delsey rigid suitcase must weigh in at 6 kilos empty
The resulting charges for the outbound journey added 50% to the return flight costs. The check in scales on my airport return journey I saw go from 14.5 to 15 kg and back to 14.5kg with no external intervention.
There is good money to be made from excess baggage charges on the budget airlines, and there were many puzzled tourists at Reus trying to reconcile how their luggage could get heavier with less sun cream, shower gel, yada yada

I was prepared to chuck stuff out of my luggage, which would have been cheaper than pay the charges, which was not an option on my outward journey, as I had only 1 item in my case )

All UK airports have the 23kg baggage limit for H&S.

it's the inevitable consequence of the way businesses are run nowadays, processes are outsourced and the SLA produces bizarre incentives. It's a complete scam really, what really annoys me is the excess luggage charge is by weight, so my sack of mountaineering gear is charged by weight but someone with a golf bag is charged by item and they're paying less.

Personally I suspect it would be difficult for Ripoffair to legally enforce the non-transferable baggage allowance, but who is going to challenge them when all you want to do is get on your flight? The practice is worst at any of their hubs.

Two pax with one suitcase weighing 20kgs must cost them less in handling charges than two pax with 2 suitcases weighing 10 kgs each.

That coupled with charging you extra to pay for your ticket (they levy a charge for debit cards as well as credit cards) yet you can only pay by card is again an example of illegal advertising of prices (all compulsory costs must be shown up front).

Ripoffair flout the law blatantly. They are also hacking off an ever growing number of customers with their additional charges. Eventually they will destroy their goose that has been laying golden eggs.

what do you mean by share?

It's simple, lets say 2 folks travelling together. Not too much luggage, so put it in one suitcase. If it's over 15kg then there will be an excess baggage charge levied, despite both travellers have paid for a luggage allowance. They don't allow pooling of weight allowances.

They stung me last year for 50E as the wife and I share a case for short ski breaks, when I kicked up I stink there answer was transfer some of your luggage into another bag, as if we had one, this year I'm flying BA no charge for ski's or for only having one bag.

Ryanair "rescheduled" my 1p flight from STN to Girona in Feb next year. I had the option of cancelling, accepting or taking a 1p credit off my next flight with them.
I looked at what else was available and found flights from Luton at approx the same time as my original ones. These were only £2.89 each. Booking these for 4 of us saved me £50, so I took the STN cancelation and saved myself some money.

Thank you Ryanair.

I have not had a problem with Ryanair personally, although I would choose to fly with other airlines given a choice.
It is however hugely irritating to use them for a holiday due to their restrictions, checking in arrangements, etc. Its ok for a weekend away though.
