If you look like you may be forces you can often get a discount then - my mate and i did in most places (and without asking - that was back about 6 years ago) and we had some rather jolly drinking times with a Nimrod crew along the way to.

My mate goes every year and loves the place. Despite some erratic snowfall in recent years.
The goat stahl is legendary I am told.
The bars will be very busy with heavy drinking forces people which could be brilliant or awful depending on what you like from your nights out ;-)

Ski hire in Viehoffen on the way in. (Assume you're driving, pull in on the right just after the village centre). We are there every alternate Christmas and stay in Viehoffen itstelf. They are great for giving you what you need and changing it if you want to try something else. They will also happily match you up with the conditions (we have had everything from three feet to ice and grass). Drop down the 68 if you need to change anything, this puts you at the back of the shop. There is a great bar half way down too for sunny afternoons.

Ski hire through Treffpunkt Europsport in Saalbach. Click on ski hire on the left hand side of the J2ski page. When you plumb in the details, remove boot hire option. Six day hire is 72 Eu to 92 Eu.

I used them last year, I hired for a few days, booked online in resort, but still went through J2ski.

Ski hire: Try Snowbrainer or SkiSet (do a search via your browser). If you end up getting your skis from the shop at the lift station at the bottom of the village (which you can via SkiSet),they will let you store your skis and boots there for free.
Bars: Can't remember names, but there is a round bar next to the bottom lift station that is very good and gets really lively. There are a couple of bars further up the hill as you go up, on the left hand side that do happy hours.
Skied: On snow, On water, On mud, On slush, On ice. Oh, and on a few dry slopes.

Après try the Castello opposite the Sport Berger Hotel. Usually a good live band from 5pm.
