Whatever the science, Iceman, you're under orders to change socks at every opportunity. And clean socks are always part of regular and routine resupply. Blisters are caused by ill-fitting boots, of course, but dirty socks contribute as well.

Once upon a time, the baggage security man at Miami airport opened my 'dirty kit' rucksack. I warned him that I'd been in the jungle in Belize. He went ahead - and his face was a picture of horror!

Similar thing happened at Lyon airport after one RAF ski championships; security opened everyone's ski bags at check-in. They were confronted by two weeks' worth of smelly socks in scores of bags. Poor beggars needed danger money....

HaHaHa !!
My car was searched as part of a Customs training programme at Portsmouth - on my return from a season in France!
The back seat was full of bin bags, and I was in the absolutely last possible remotely clean clothes!
And I had some lovely cheeses and saucisson!
And the Spaniel got over excited and the young lady showed great professional fortitude when riffling through my dirties.

Sorry Lota but thats a load of old tripe, as previously stated on this site I used to take many pairs of
ski socks away with me but used to find that I never used most of them so now, I know rather extreme in some peoples eyes I only take one pair of ski socks, never had problems with my boots and I have never had a blister. 8)

Lota is absolutely correct IMHO, clean socks help with general hygiene and help prevent blisters.
But .......
Wickers is totally correct as well IMHO !!!
My feet don't seem to sweat, my boots never need all this drying on boot dryers and air blowers and shenanigins. Take 'em off, leave them in the boot room, put them back on - job done.

Perhaps it is as simple as that?

If you have sweaty feet change your socks daily. If not change them annually

Well, Mr Wickham, you and I will have to disagree. Won't be the first, or the last, time, I suppose!
