I am well up for doing that. But you need THE perfect day to do it so its a big chance.

Anyway, it will end up being Courch on the train seeing as Ally is running it. If she actually goes herself that is.

I think if you do a week in Cham you have a good chance of a decent day.....unless you get a crap week ;-)

I have closed the survey now, and we're going to Tignes!

However, I'm not sure whether it's going to be January or March. According to the survey results March is marginally more popular, but according to the pm's I've received more people want to go in January.

So - if you are interested in coming would you please pm me and say whether you'd rather go in January or March (unless you've done so already of course).

I think I will hold the date open for another day and go by the messages I get rather than the survey. At the moment I am looking at a week in the second half of January.

2 things

Seems a bit of a cult you are running here. If you tell others who is going you might get a better response. None of us know each other, but I know there are some people I certainly would not want to be away with. Likewise, some that I think I could have a laugh with

Need to be a bit open about it.

I can't do tignes in January. Have fun :)

Hi Icy,
Sorry I'm a bit tired tonight, so I may be a bit more wibbly and make even less sense than normal. It's been a very long day.

That survey was anonymous, so even I didn't know who wanted to come until I asked people to pm me - was it yesterday - I can't remember - too tired. And I'm still getting pm's now, trying to sort it all out.

The problem is that none of us know who will be going altogether until it's all sorted, booked, and paid for. I mean, some people will drop out, and others will decide to come. And then quite likely quite a few people will time their own holiday so that they can come and have a peek at us, whilst maintaining their own independence.

So if one person decides to come on the basis that someone else ISN'T coming and then that other person decides to come, then the first person would have to drop out.

Or, alternatively, if one person decides to come just because another person IS coming, and then the second person drops out - what happens to the first person?

I don't really see why anyone would worry about who else is coming, as long as they don't have to share a room with them. That, I admit, is going to be a bit more tricky to sort out. Apart from that it surely can't be worse than staying in an ordinary chalet or hotel where you wouldn't know anyone and there might well be someone you absolutely can't stand.

I would imagine that the J2Ski holiday group would break up into smaller groups of people that get on particularly well, or like to ski together. And, generally speaking, we all get on okay on the forum, so I don't see why we wouldn't get on okay in real life.

If you still want to know who's coming, I'll post it up in a few days when I've got more of an idea myself.

I'm sorry you can't come yourself  I would have enjoyed your company.

May I be honest, not negative, just honest here?

You have a couple of problems.

First, anonymity could be a problem. Those committing to go will want to know who else is on the list, and I cannot imgaine anyone being prepared to pay anything until they know who else is going. Plus I can't see anyone dropping out once they've paid as that means losing money, so you need to be transparent with all of this.

Secondly, who's going to share rooms? And who will decide who's going to share with who? You may have mixed sex travellers, and thats only going to cause serious upset somewhere. I know I wouldn't consider sharing with a total stranger. The alternative is single supplements, which will prove costly, if you find an operator prepared to let you have a number of rooms for singles when they could fill them with 2 or more people. Hotels and chalets are geared up for 2 people sharing, and holidays are costed accordingly. Apartments obviously can be for more sharing, but then you've got the same issue of putting people together. Plus you'll only get group discounts if you fill accommodation space.

Finally, have you considered where everyone lives? Some will be in remote parts of the UK, in Scotland, Ireland maybe, or even further afield. You'll find that Tigner holiday packages involve flights, and the standard is Gatwick which could be an issue for some people, impossible for others. Regional flights, IF available, attract a premium.

Like I said, just trying to offer some honest views here and raise the kind of concerns that I have covered when planning holidays in the past.

Personally, I think you now need to go public with those who are expressing a serious interest in going on this trip. Now you've decided on Tignes, which I assume was the majority, you might find people not wanting to go there and pulling out perhaps? I think it would be a good idea for those going to know who else is on the list, so they can decide to pull out should they discover their arch J2ski Nemesis might also be going, and also cover off where they would fly from. Knowing what gender they are will also be helpful as well as relevant.
Not trying to steal anyone's thunder here as I have no intention of organising this kind of thing myself, but trying to make suggestions that would help.

I think they are all very fair points. Also important to remember is that because cham and Tignes were so close together that you may get drop outs based on the resort of choice.

Maybe a better approach would have been to say we can get xx deal in Tignes or xx deal in Cham. People can then see the reason of choice. Same for the month.

It is a very difficult thing to do when you know the people, but with a load of strangers all with different opinions it might be a bit more challenging. I might be in Tignes myself in Jan, so who knows. But then I would like to try somewhere a bit different

Unfortunately I will not be attending not for the reason I dislike anyone, as most people know that I dislike everyone
But for me January is family ski ,Little W has her final ESF gold level to complete in 2013 so I wish to ensure she completes that OK.
And as you know we are off to South Africa at the end of October start of November so I may just be struggling to afford a second ski trip at this time. Thats not to say we won't but we will have to wait and see how many pennies we have left.
Still I hope it all works out for you all and that you have a fantastic time, well it won't be that fantastic as I will not be there

Nice comments from Wickers ....

Me too

No idea what next season holds for me skiing wise, except, barring major accidents etc I'll be on the snow at least once but it does look, at the moment, like some late organising.

Mind you last summer it looked like I wouldn't get to the snow at all this season and I have managed 2 x trips :D

Whether this proposed trip gets of the ground or not AllyG needs applauding for taking things as far as she has so far. Fingers crossed that it will end with a superb week on the snow for those that go and may be the start of something regular.

More power to Ally

Oh - and Africa may be getting in the way of skiing for me as well. Not that I will complain
I adore Africa (wildlife, wild places) and we are hoping to go sometime end of this year - Botswana maybe, possibly Zambia. Haven't managed a trip since 2008 when we drove 3500km across southern Africa in a land Rover - epic trip.
