Could anyone give me an idea as to how often should I get my skis waxed in terms of hours on piste?

I would normally wax mine two to three times during the week but you can get away with once per week.

Dixie, You may also want to take a small diamond file and gummie stone to de-burr your edges. On my last two trips I have taken these and some rub on wax and cork it into the base. Result = Better performance.
I just love the gravitational pull

On my last trip I used liquid wax every morning, 2 minutes to apply and it definitely makes a difference to performance.

Thats a good call, but you do have to use it daily as it does not last

My skis were too slow last year, and the rental ski shop put liquid wax on them for me during my lunch break. In my afternoon lesson our instructor took us straight down a black run and I found I could hardly ski at all - it was like ski-ing on snakes instead of skis - they went all over the place for the first half hour or so. I'm not going to use liquid wax again. This year I gave the skis in overnight for a proper waxing and they were fine - went faster and I could still control them - no snakes this time! :D

I would say the proper wax worked for about three days before beginning to wear off, whereas (fortunately) the effect of the liquid wax had pretty much worn off by the end of the afternoon.

I don't think it was the liquid wax Ally more like your liquid lunch :D
