The season so far has been very good with regular dumps of snow and low temperatures. At the moment all of the resorts of the Central Pyrenees are reporting excellent snow depths and fantastic conditions.

This weekend resorts are reporting up to 50cm of powder, (Baqueira 30cm yesterday) with snow still falling.

With virtually empty slopes and fantastic conditions this is certainly the place to be before the French school holidays kick off.

Tomorrow will be a big powder day :D :D :D

Taken from the Cecire chair, though this area is closed at the moment due to avalanche risk. Tons of powder to play in when it opens.

The excellent start to the season continues with up to 90cm having fallen in some resorts last weekend and at the beginning of the week. All resorts report excellent snow depths at their base and great on/off piste conditions.

We are scheduled for a few days of milder weather before the next snow which is due on Monday/Tuesday with predominantly cooler weather.

Great skiing at:

Superbagneres: 85/155cm
Peyragudes: 130/210cm
Baqueira Beret: 165/275cm

After the storms there is wind blown snow on some exposed ridges but this is balanced out with great powder in the valleys. There will be fantastic snow for the main school holidays starting on the 7th of Feb.

Heavy snow last night and it is continuing at the moment down to about 1100m. It looks like Superbagneres, Peyragudes and Baqueira have had another 20cm to top up there already excellent base. It is looking very good for the start of the season on the 29th. :D :D :D

After very heavy snow on Sunday which brought down trees and power lines I spent some time this morning at Peyragudes to see how the new base is progressing and to check out the snow. The construction is all but complete and they are now fitting out and though I expect this amount of snow may hold them up a little it is looking very good.

Anyway with 50cm plus at the base all bodes well for when they are due to open on the 29th of November - fingers crossed and all that.

This last week has seen the first snow of the winter and in unusually large amounts. The first snow cleared in two days but we are having a heavy fall at the moment which seems set to continue for a few days yet.

This is not an indication of how the winter will pan out but it certainly is nice to see the mountains covered in the lovely white stuff.



Since this photo was taken the snow level has fallen to approx 1000m

The same weather fronts are forecast to hit the Pyrenees with snow Mon - Wed. Still a little early to be sure but after the snow yesterday it is a sign of the changing weather patterns.

Can anyone recommend a resort which is within 90min transfer, short walk to slopes for the children and a bit of life or variety for the mixed group of skiers, boarders and non ski/boarders. Either Austria or France, Italy seems to have too long transfers.

We prefer a catered chalet but it doesn't have to be exclusive use - a bit of luxury always an added bonus too ie hot tub!
