Calf pain - any advice?
Started by User in Ski Chatter, 25 Replies
see if there is something inside the boot.it sounds strange but my ski pants have a button on the part that goes into the boot(at least i put it inside the boot) so i experienced extreme pain one day. the strange part is that i didn't feel the button at all because the pain was all over the calf.also see if your socks are folded at the top and if they go up your leg more than your boot does.and you have to push your legs forward
using a drag lift
Started by User in Ski Technique, 64 Replies
I understand why some people prefer chair lifts over drag lifts. However i think it is very useful if one can use a drag lift easily. the place where i usually ski for over 15 years has drag lifts on the top of the mountain(where the snow is). so i learned to use a drag lift and now i don't even notice if I am on a drag lift or a chair lift(except when it is cold).
it is really helpful if you are on a drag lift(t-bar) with someone who can use them easily. You should be in the position that you ski in and be relaxed. much of the pain in the legs comes from the fact that most people try to fight the lift. just relax and you let the lift guide you soon you will be able to control the line even though there is no need because the lift is designed for that and it will not let you fall(unless you fight it).i have tried to ski of the line as much as i can and when i relax the lift just brings me back under the cable.
So my advise is don't avoid drag lifts because you never now when you will need one. plus drag lifts are less affected by weather(wind) so when the chair lifts are closed you can still ski. it is like swimming. when swimmers have training they don't get out of the pool after every 100 meters.

but keep your eyes on the 'road' for bumps and steeps

I think its is great that Sochi got the olympics.
finally we will see something diferent and completly new. I have never been there but from the pictures I can see it is beautiful untouched nature
I am sure they will build everything on time but am afraid they might even build too much and spoil the nature.
Is there a RIGHT and LEFT ski

I agree about the usage of both skis. I just don't know what is ideal. to put pressure equally on both or more on one ski(inside/outside). as far as the video that trencher posted I think it is a liitle to extreme. I think that skier puts pressure only on the inside ski and that is way his outside ski is bouncing around and loses its grip. that is only from my point of view.I might be wrong.
and Trencher the one about the skiers saving their edges for the next olympics was really good one
What age to start?

I have heard recently that is not preferable to start skiing too young.That is because the kids legs and knees are not well formed.I am sorry but I can't tell you the limit but I still think it depends from the child. I started skiing at 4 and a half and eveything is fine with me.
