Not who i expected to get Winter Olympics 2014!

I was hoping Austria would get it, but their doping scandal ruined it to be honest.

I think its is great that Sochi got the olympics.
finally we will see something diferent and completly new. I have never been there but from the pictures I can see it is beautiful untouched nature
I am sure they will build everything on time but am afraid they might even build too much and spoil the nature.

In 2014 I'll be celebrating (or consoling) my 40th Birthday. I think a trip to Sochi to experience the Olympics might be quite a good way to mark the occasion.

My partners 40th is in 2012 - The year of the London Olympics. The sailing events are being held here in our home town. Perhaps I'll just take her to see a sailing event or two :P

Agreed, I expect EasyJet to announce flights to Sochi in fairly short order and no doubt RyanAir will be able to fly you to an abandoned air base 300 miles away for only the cost of your baggage allowance...

Apparently the ski station (Krasnaya Polyana) is a favourite of Putin - who played a major part in the final presentations to the Olympic Committee - and is known as the Russian Courchevel.

I thought Courchevel itself was largely Russian these days?

So, anyone hereabouts actually skiied there? We'd love to know!
