Anybody skied the Harakiri in Mayrhofen?

Er, this is a steep run, measured at 78%, which is close to 38 degrees. If it was 78 degrees, you would need a pair of ice axes to hang on :D
It's still a steep run, to give a comparison, the "Swiss Wall" aka Chavanette in Avoriaz is around 35 degrees, and that sees plenty of casualties on icy moguls.
New to skiing unsure about clothing

I have read good anecdotal comments about the Aldi gear. I don't own any, which may be due to not having an Aldi anywhere nearby.

Thermals should be breathable, and have wicking properties to carry perspiration away from the skin. Look for the small print describing how the garment performs.

Ski socks, should be sock shaped, and have extra padding for the shin. Avoid "tube" shaped socks, they are not kind to your tootsies.

Microfleeces are multipurpose, and have mostly taken over from the "polo". Some cheaper fabrics do "pill", though are still great for layering. Again, the fleece layers need to work with the thermals and carry perspiration away, being soggy is not nice.

Goggles are important as they protect your eyes from the weather and the glare. Look for CE marked products and a "lens use" rating. My own preference is for Oakley goggles, as on overcast days they make everything seem brighter, and have good definition. :D

Gloves are important, I have had frostbite from buying cheap gloves, so I'm biased towards mainstream brands like Hestra, which keep my fingers nice and warm.
It's also worth looking in TK Maxx as they have lots of last years' ski clothing at very cheap prices.
Yup, I'm with ise, it's £700. What's more I think I am missing the point, this is just a fashion shoe? What is it's purpose in snowsport?
Best Ski Resort for a week in Andorra?

This site should have lots of info for you..
http://www.andorramania.com/
It's great that the 2 regional ski areas have got together to offer 1 pass, though you will still need to use the bus or car to get between the main centres. Andorran ski areas are spread about the country.
I'm not sure that you're going to be able to stay near Caldea and ski, without bus or car trip, so you must decide your priorities, Caldea is just outside Andorra La Vella on the way to Encamp. In no way will it take you several hours from arrival in Andorra La Vella to Soldeu, er...maybe 45 mins if there is traffic!

Of course, on your way to Andorra, you will pass some Spanish ski resorts, Valdelinares and Javalambre, part of the Aramon Region resorts.
Well done Mike, you really needed very little help. Enjoy :D
If my memories are correct, then it's not generally possible to ski from Arinsal (Valnord ski area) to Pas de la Casa (Grand Valira ski area). They are quite a distance apart and on different lift passes. Of course I could be totally wrong here. Any Andorra experts, please step up :D

I hear that it's been snowing quite a bit in Andorra in the past couple of days :D
Long Weekends?

If the DIY unpackaged approach seems a bit like hard work, then there are two Tour Operators who do Short Breaks and Long Weekends. Try Inghams, or Crystal Ski. Both are mainstream companies with the usual booking safeguards Most high st travel agents carry their brochures, or you can book direct by phone, or on the web :D

France this year

I have skied Megeve several times.Plenty of OP there, if you are sufficiently skilled. Many guides bring groups there from Chamonix, if the weather is bad.

As for the big money, last time I was there, there was a Casino, Polo matches, rich Russians, had arrived in large numbers, I saw several HummerH2's in the supermarket carpark, and I saw a dressing gown in a shop window for 850 Euros. It was very a nice dressing gown though ) 2 very nice cups of coffee at the top of Mont D'Arbois was 9 Euros (ish).

La Clusaz will be cheaper, but invariably less chic :D
