The fella to see is Jules Mills, and he runs an independent bootfitting service within Sanglard Sport in Chamonix.

Who said it was over :D I raise you, and offer...... SCUNTHORPE |
The carbuncle on the Maurienne landscape known as VT should, IMHO be used as target practice by all EU airforces :x |
I did'nt want to be seen as pimping, but I know of the fitter who you went to see in Chamonix. I'm a longstanding customer of the fella in Bicester, and I buy kit from the place in Leamington :D

I have not stayed in Verbier, and would not choose to do so. Okay if someone gave me a freebie and twisted my arm...you get the idea ) It's a mega resort, lots of people, traffic, dorks on skis, queues, folks with more money than common sense etc. Nendaz was bad enough, as it was a little too close and some of the Verbier holidaymakers made it that far over  If you like La Plagne/Tignes/Val D'Isere/Val Thorens etc, it's a pricier Swiss version IMHO. I prefer my skiing on the whole to be a little less manufactured. If you follow the link in my sig, and read the entry "Dam Crusty", you will see what I mean. There is of course room for all tastes in the mountains :D |
Unless she is really, really, lucky and bags a new pair of hire boots, I feel there is more discomfort to come. Lets' face it, hire boots have so many different foot shapes shoved in them it's not surprising they don't really fit anyone.
The loss of the toenail can sometimes be due to the foot sliding forward in the boot, because the foot is not held properly. Been there done that! Sometimes a boot shell is too low over the top of the foot and that can cause cramping. She also needs good arch support, and a womens' fit boot appropriate to her skill level. I feel what you both need to do is decide before you go, if she would like to take her chances again, or go and see a bootfitter and get her own pair. A decent fitter will assess her foot shape and offer a shell of the right size and shape. If that is not an option, then consider taking a pair of Superfeet footbeds with you, and replacing the removable footbed from the boot after fitting. At least this will provide some support. Just don't forget to take them out again when you hand the boots back :D Painful feet can ruin a ski holiday, and it's my view that most skiers have endured the rental experience, then gone and purchased their own boots. Personally speaking, there is nothing nicer than knowing that only my feet my go into my boots :D |
The Autoroute Gendarmes were definitely active on the A26 at the weekend. Radar gun in hand sitting in their patrol car at the side of the road. Mind you it was a nice sunny day to be out in Nord Pas de Calais :D
I can't help feeling that it must have been a poor day for them, we saw no-one in a hurry, everyone seemed well chilled :D |
Fear not, somewhere out there is a boot that will fit you like er...a glove )
Seriously, for the South East I suggest this fella.. http://solutions4feet.com/ I have been a customer for a couple of years, my SO uses his service and so do friends as well. All are happy, and I get nothing for suggesting his service :D |
