Rose, you live at sea level, so it's harder for you to get acclimatised at altitude. Plenty of aerobic work for you in the autumn.
I get plenty of minor symptoms of AMS over 2000m if I'm sleeping at that altitude. It suits me to ski high and sleep low. These days, I find that Gingko Biloba cuts down on headaches and nosebleeds which I found to be a PITA for my 1st week in the mountains. Not sure why it works though! |
Not actually done this route yet. Your options seem to be: From Milan Malpensa by bus or train into Milan Central, then onto the Cisalpino and change at Brig for the Postbus. From Milan Malpensa by car, and over the Simplon Pass, which is usually open. From Milan Malpensa by car, and pop your car onto this at Iselle.... http://www.bls.ch/e/autoverlad/autoverlad.php which will avoid any weather problems on the pass. NB. I have a sneaking suspicion that this does not run in the winter..which is weird :?: I do know a man who has done the Pass route, he intended to use the tunnel, but missed the entrance signs! One small matter, his Italian hire car did not have winter tyres, unlike Swiss airport vehicles. |
I suggest that Gstaad would suit Rose, as it's closer to the airport, has plenty of expensive shopping, and a railway station :D
I have been, but it's a while ago, but I do remember that the slopes were not crowded, but the restaurants were  |
When you get your full face helmet, check out some body armour as well ) |
Where is your sense of adventure! I suppose you could take your snowboarding best mate and make 'do' :D |
Wot about in the bar? ) Shirley, they don't drink cocktails  |
I do try and keep fit year round. Gym work, walking, cycling and occasionally skiing, both in the UK and Europe. I the Autumn, I try and make sure that I get plenty of cardiovascular exercise ready for the season.

Is the lack of performance true for all snowboarders? There must be one somewhere that can keep up, Shirley? |
