How did I miss this! The lengths our Olympic alpine athletes have to go to, to fund their participation is quite astonishing

Looks really pretty and peaceful. Did you see much wildlife? There have plenty of sightings of deer in Grimentz village this week.

That's really all I've been saying, That's it's possible to ski ok without them. Other people have been saying that good skiing is not posssible without poles.

You would not enjoy most of the skiing I do if you lacked poles. I fell over on Saturday and tried to stand up, sank in up to my backside on one leg. The only way to get back to my skis was to crawl. Poles get used in all sorts of ways, last Sat I made a + from mine in order to stand up
I would say that, some skiing can be done okay without poles. Most of the advancement in recreational skiing starts with racing. I don't see any of the alpine disciplines, losing the sticks just yet.

Me too... although when I skied it <cough> years ago it was a Black run with a large hand-painted skull and crossbones, which I took to be warning me of pirates, nailed to a stick at the top. 8)

You are quite right, it used to be a regular Black grade slope. The skull and crossbones was probably a warning about the price of a decent coffee after you crossed that point

Perhaps the sign should be amended, given the value of Sterling to the Euro right now )

Ta Admin Dave :D

The Wikipedia entry is not one I'd seen before. Seems I took the rather direct route close to the lift

Yes it was  steep. Though I have to say there were folks skiing the fall line going past me

I'm not sure about the Wikipedia "classification" mind you. Orange marking for a route, I have always understood to mean Itinerary, patrolled, not groomed, not marked but secured.
