We're off to Soll 15th Jan. We were there same time last year and the snow was fine. I just looked at the webcams about 15 min ago and commented to hubby how green Soll looks! It'll be fine..... I take it you haven't been there before?

Hi Sharonshinwell, 51b is probably around whatever lift is numbered 51 but I'm sure there's also run 51, 51a and 51c! You'll find it on the map somewhere around where the blue 43 starts. The blue run back to the village is fine. It is mostly a track although there are a couple of bits your friend might find slightly steep-ish. We had a timid skiier with us as well and she managed fine. When you come out from the trees at the top of the first gondola, head for the gap between the two gondolas and veer slightly left. This will take you down to an area where there is 4 chairs and the blue to Soll is accessed from there. If you go up on the two seater chair there is a nice little blue your friend could try and its short as well. There's another nice short blue (I think it's shown as a red on the map) which is virtually flat at the top going onto a short red which is accessed from one of these 4 chairs. I can't remember the number but when you come down to the 4 chairs, it's the one straight in front of you.

Sharonshinwell, you will love the Eggerwirt, it's a brilliant little hotel. The food was excellent, it's really clean and tidy, lovely rooms and there's a nice little snug just off the receiption area with an open fireplace. The ski bus stop is right at the door, last pick up point, first drop off. It is literally 10 paces from the door of the hotel. The bus around 8.30/8.45 was not too busy, the 9.30 was very busy. No queues at all at the lifts.

The piste map is a bit confusing as there are no piste numbers on it. There are some great long runs - a fantastic one down to Hopfgarten from the top cable car, I think it was red 20 and 21 (or maybe 21/22). You can also go down the black on the Hohe Salve from here. Red 40 takes you back towards Soll. Another good run is from the first cable car at Soll take the chair on your left, go down the red 51 and then 7 and then onto another chair (where the igloo is). This will take you onto 51b and the whole way back to an chair (with orange covers) where you can then take a nice blue back to the top of the first gondola at Soll (43a). From there you can either go down the blue or red to the village. We did a horrible run - red 1a to Brixen Im Thale - really icy in places. Good skiiers would prob find it ok but it was difficult for us.

The Moonlight is a great little spot for apres ski just at the bottom of the red back to Soll. And try the toboggan run back to the village. It's fairly hairy in places!

Have a great time to all who have still to go. :D

I've only got my skiis etc through Sport Bachfelder (under the Hotel Austria) so I can't comment but Dave Mac on here I believe has booked skiis through Ski Set who I think work through Ski Margreiter. Sport Bachfleder were fine, by the way. )
Newbie going to Niederau in Jan

We learnt to ski in Niederau in '96 with the red ski school (excellent). We booked through Inghams and our "Learn to Ski" pack included a beginners ski pass which covers all of Niederau and possibly Oberau but we only skiied in Niederau. I'm pretty sure it doesn't cover Auffach. The beginner/nursery slopes in Niederau are all in the village so those of you who've booked beginner lessons will be on those for 2-3 days and then you'll go up top on the gondola. )
