Nice photos :D , though JT is definitely skiing like a man with a very painful calf muscle ) He's looking just a little conservative!

Where are the piccies of the run down to the dam, and the 50' pitch on the other side? :D
Well ise, if you think it's a misleading statement made by Amer Sports on their press release, you should take it up with them. Alternatively you could send the press release to the Advertising Standards Authority I suppose :)

As for me, I'm still on the lookout for new boots :D
I spent a very pleasant hour so so in the company of cem yesterday, trying on some of next seasons boots. The boots I tried are a very interesting concept.

The Atomic Renu is the first Alpine boot that is made of renewable raw materials but still matches traditional boots in performance. Renu is made 80% of renewable and recyclable materials. Moreover, its production generates clearly less carbon dioxide emissions than is normally the case.

The Renu boot has been granted ‘Planet Positive’ status by dcarbon8, a carbon and sustainability consultant, for its environmental friendliness. However, it does not compromise on performance nor is it heavier than other boots.

The testers seem to like them....

On my feet the boots felt a lot lighter than my Head S8's, have a translucent shell, which looks 8) and have a very springy flex.

Sadly, as cem only sells boots that fit his customers properly, I came home empty handed :(

If you fancy trying a pair, AFAIK, ordinary ski shops will have their stocks in the autummn ready for the winter season.

Spoke to Edge2Edge, they offer Head Edge boots in large sizes. I would need to drive to Crawley and try them on. I'd also need to lug them with me to and from Andorra.

I've spoken to a shop in Soldeu called Pic Negre who say they also have my sizes in a Salomon hire boot.

I'm guessing the head boot will be better - but It means I have to drive down to crawley and lug the boots over to Soldue.

decisions.

Will the hire shop absolutely have the boot reserved for you? It would be a tad inconvenient to find that a bloke with the same size feet took the last pair an hour before you got there.

How comfortable would you like to be in ski boots? Will a pair which are mostly the right length do for you?

Does the thought of having black toenails for the next 6 months freak you out?

As you say, decisions, only you can make them!

Ski boots will fit into a suitcase, most owners manage to squeeze a pair in. They weigh about 5 kg.

My son's helmet is 58cm and he is just growing out of it. New last year, it fits my 13 yo daughter & me, but some of the ladies ones on this site are 52 & 54cm...I thought my head was smallish. The women these are for must have weeny heads.

My helmet is a 54cm. Are you calling me a pinhead  It's this one.

Tony_H wrote:Thanks Bandit. Well they are an all mountain ski, wider underfoot, thats the main reason to consider them. The reviews seem good. Mrs H is a very tidy and competent skier, I under rate her ability sometimes to my detriment.
How do I know if they will suit her without her trying them out?

Ideally she should try some 1st. However it's likely that she would take a couple of days to get used to the difference underfoot. For me though when you say...

Mrs H is a very tidy and competent skier, I under rate her ability sometimes to my detriment.

She will likely leave you eating her rooster tails :D

You can start thinking about upping your game when she starts skiing backwards...they are twinnie's after all )

For that money, she could use them for a week, and get the money back on an ebay sale if she really does not like them.

They have been around for a few years, as you say, reviews are good, you found that a ski with a wider mid section made you a happier skier, and you want her to follow you. It's seems quite a sensible choice to me.

It's a very well respected ski, for an amazingly good price. The main thing is, will they suit the way Mrs H skis?
I'd have a pair, but my OH would have a cow if I got yet another pair of skis....narrowly missed out on a pair of 2010 season boots today....they didn't fit right
