canazei to selva val gardena

We were in Canazei the week before last.

The snow was no better in Selva than it was in Canazei.

You will get to Selva in around an hour I would guess as I don't know how fast you ski.

Follow the Sella Ronda Orange (clockwise route) through the Rodella and Plan de Gralba areas.

We will be going to Canazei on 16th Feb. 1st time here but I have stayed in Arabba many times which is about an hours ski away.

The skiing is pretty much aimed at intermediate mileage gobblers who like great scenery. The features of the area are the Sella Ronda route which you can take either way around which makes for a good touring type day out especially if you drop of the main route and visit some of the other linked ski areas. There are plenty of red/blue runs but if you do your homework it is possible to find some tougher blacks to add a bit of spice to the day.

Also don't miss out of the hidden valley at Lagazoui which you need to get a bus/taxi for from Armentarola. This is a fantastic ski through some of the most spectacular scenery, including a huge set of frozen water falls. This culmulates in being towed by horse and sleigh ( small charge of about 3 euros ) along a long flat section back to Armentarola.

If you do get a chance of a day out to Cortina then that is worthwhile too.

Food is less expensive than France and generally good quality and there are lots of mountain restaurants.

Enjoy!!

I don't think that any resort gets much closer than La Clusaz and Le Grand Bornand - collectively known as the Aravis region. Under an hour (50 mins on a good day) from Geneva, and with over 220km of piste.

Les Carroz for the Grand Massif area is probably a tad closer to GVA and Les Contamines about the same journey time - or you could be skiing in under 30 minutes on the Jura at Lelex - Crozet or at La Col de la Faucille above Gex.

We will be in Villaroger for the first week of Easter staying at http://www.optimumski.com

If you like it quiet then you may like it here. All the ski benefits of the large resort, connects into Les Arcs by 2 or 3 (if you wish) chairlifts.

Great chalet and really nice people that run it. Have their own ski host who also runs the bar in the chalet.

And while your at it could you look up French for Vegetarian?

We will be in Villaroger w/c 31st March, I have made a note to check how Henri and Michel at La Ferme provide the 'give aways'

Have to agree with all that has been said, especially the recommendation for La Ferme and Soliet aka Henri's. Although Henri tends to produce the Genepi in seperate glasses these days.

Also I would highly recommend the Restaurant Aiguille Rouge in Villaroger for lunch.

BTW Admin - when were you last there?
Ouch! wrote:What on earth do you do for a week in a ski resort that has no snow????

Same as you do when there is too much snow and nothing is open. This was the case for the first 4 days of a holiday I had in Verbier in February 1999. Same week as the terrible Galtur avalanche disaster.

There was a lot of talk about skiing and beer drunk!!
Lyons to Tignes/Val d'Isere/Les Arcs etc can be a good deal more than 4.5 hours at the wrong time of year ( being Feb school holidays ) - which is not November so 2 to 2.5 should be ample time.

Chambery is closer, probably 1.5 hours but I have not driven it, whereas I have driven and been driven the Lyons route many times. Geneva is also an option for you, this should be no more than 3 hours in November.
